Living in a warm home is important to decreasing the risk of ill health and increasing wellbeing.
Heat the human, not the home
A more cost-effective way to think about keeping warm in your home in the winter is to think along the lines of MoneySavingExpert’s new guide – ‘heat the human, not the home’. They offer some simple tips to cut down on energy use, which include:
-
Eating regularly and trying to have at least one hot meal per day, as recommended by the NHS.
-
Layering clothing and keeping your feet warm with rugs and slippers (especially as the floor can be one of the coldest spots in the house!).
-
Moving and exercising to keep warm. Our Richmond Moves site offers some great tips.
-
Using low-energy and reusable heat appliances like microwaveable heat bags, hot water bottles, hand warmers and electric heat pads/blankets.
