With warmer weather around the corner and the blossoms and daffodils out, the days are feeling longer and brighter - this is a great chance to explore our surroundings and move more. As part of the Friendly Parks for All project there are free weekly activities around the borough. These are held in association with local charities Ruils and Richmond Borough Mind.
Have you had a NHS Health Check recently? Even if you feel great now, our risk of long term illness can change over time.
This 20-minute check-up for eligible residents includes an assessment of your overall health to spot early risk factors for certain long-term conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease and stroke.
Take proactive steps to protect your long-term health by getting an NHS Health Check. You can book your free NHS Health Check with your local GP or pop into one of the participating pharmacies in the borough that offers NHS Health Checks.

Quitting smoking starts with a single day, and with the right support, you’re four times more likely to succeed.
Quitting smoking delivers rapid benefits – within three days, breathing and energy levels improve; within weeks, skin and circulation benefit; and within a year, the risk of heart attack is halved.
No Smoking Day is an opportunity to start your smoke-free journey. To support you we offer free tailored support, ranging from our Swap to Stop scheme – which offers a vape kit with three months of supplies as a quitting aid for smokers 18 and over – to Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT) and tips for managing withdrawal symptoms and triggers.
You can come and chat to our friendly advisors at the Twickenham Civic Centre on Monday 9 March from 10am-3pm or on the Health Bus on Thursday 12 March at the Whitton Social Centre from 11-3pm to discuss your smoke-free journey. No appointment required.

Protect your child against measlesÂ
Measles spreads quickly among unvaccinated children, but it’s easily preventable with two doses of the MMRV vaccine. The MMRV vaccine protects your child from measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox (varicella). The MMRV vaccine replaced the MMR vaccine as part of the childhood routine vaccination schedule as of 1 January 2026. Children are offered two doses when they are 12 and 18 months old as part of the routine schedule.
Uptake has fallen in recent years, leaving many children at risk, but it’s never too late to catch up. Check your child’s vaccination record and contact your GP practice if they’ve missed one or both doses of the MMRV or MMR vaccine to ensure they’re fully protected.
Children can also catch up on the MMR vaccine at a community immunisation catch-up clinic. The next Richmond clinic will be held on: Saturday 21 March, 09:30 - 11:30 at Ham Youth Centre, TW10 7PL. For more information or to book an appointment, please call 020 3903 3640 or use this link.
