Council set to balance budget, protecting essential services
We’re committed to protecting quality services and keeping the Council on a stable footing, despite the significant financial pressures facing councils nationwide.
Rising demand for social care, major cuts from central government, and ongoing pressures on household finances mean difficult choices. To ensure we can keep providing essential services like waste and recycling collections, libraries, parks, and leisure facilities, we’re proposing a change in core Council Tax alongside our major transformation programme to deliver efficiency savings.
Council calls on the Government to extend support to wider hospitality sector
We have welcomed the Government’s reversal of its decision to raise business rates for pubs throughout the borough. However, we remain concerned about provision for other hospitality businesses like independent cafes, small hotels, and restaurants, which make a significant contribution to our local economy.
