Keeping your money safe from scammers
|
|
|
There has been an increase of scams linked to the cost of living crisis and Trading Standards are urging people to be on the alert. As concern grows over energy bills, we want to avoid people losing money to scammers.
Watch out for:
-
Cost of living or government energy rebates scams: Remember, we would never contact you about a rebate out of the blue so don’t reply to calls, texts or emails asking for your details.
-
Doorstep callers or telephone offering to switch you to a cheaper deal: If you’re looking for a better tariff, use a trusted comparison site or speak directly to your energy provider by following the contact details on their website.
-
‘Energy saving devices’: Some scammers are claiming to sell devices that reduce the electricity used by other devices. Many of these products have been found to be unsafe and do not help you save energy. For tips on reducing your household bills, check out the Cost of Living Hub.
It is best to stay vigilant but if you’re concerned you have fallen for a scam, don’t worry.

Cost of Living Support Calculator
To help you understand which schemes, benefits or support you might be able to access, we have a calculator. This form takes about 10-15 minutes to complete and will ask you information about your income, home and family. Once complete, it will tell you what you are entitled to, so you can look for the right scheme in our Cost of Living Hub.
How you can help
If you are in a position to help others, financially or with your time, we have plenty of suggestions for you.
