Winter solid fuel burning campaign
If your business burns solid fuels in some capacity, whenever possible (such as for secondary heat or appearances for hospitality), please consider stopping or reducing this to help protect public health. Open fires and wood-burning grills, ovens and stoves, (even the most modern eco-designed ones), are a significant source of air pollution. The main concern are tiny particles called PM2.5 which can increase the risk of serious health conditions like stroke, asthma, lung cancer, heart disease and dementia when inhaled.
To help reduce harmful PM2.5 pollution, businesses are urged to avoid burning or minimise it to essential use only, and use gas as an alternative whenever possible. You can read more on our Air quality for businesses webpage.
Richmond upon Thames is a long-standing Smoke Control Area, and recent updates to legislation mean that small amounts of smoke, even from approved stoves or authorised fuels, can now lead to fines.

Leverage Awareness Days to Boost Your Marketing Campaigns
What do British Pie Week, International Lego Day, and World Poetry Day have in common? Each offers a unique opportunity to plan your marketing campaigns in advance and engage your customers in creative ways.
Consider partnering with other local businesses to run joint campaigns and connect with the wider community. You might organise competitions - such as poetry recitals - or offer themed promotions (for example, Monday: chicken & mushroom pie; Tuesday: pork pie). These activities can help increase footfall and strengthen customer relationships.
Throughout the year, there are numerous awareness days, weeks, and months dedicated to cultural, social, historical, and health-related themes. We have compiled a brief list of notable observances and events to help your business and community plan ahead. Use these special days as inspiration to create memorable experiences for your customers.
Below is just a brief collection - we hope to have a year long listing soon on the Business Hub.
