Richmond’s call for fair funding recognised as Government confirms improved protections
The Council has been standing up for the needs of residents by pressing Ministers and officials for months to ensure funding changes reflect the real pressures facing outer London boroughs. Earlier projections suggested Richmond could face reductions of up to £45 million per year, but a new Government update now means that Richmond upon Thames is unlikely to see steep funding cuts - labelled "a significant improvement from what was originally on the table."
Council sets out strong progress and future ambition on affordable housing
A growing pipeline of new affordable homes is continuing to deliver high-quality affordable housing for local people and build foundations for a fairer borough. This year, 20 affordable homes are starting at Mereway and Meadows Hall, which include social rent, London Living Rent, and supported living. Construction also continues on over 200 affordable homes on sites across the borough including the former Greggs Bakery, Richmond College, and phase one of the Ham Close regeneration.
