Ordinary people, extraordinary impact: Richmond’s Community Heroes honoured

From saving surplus food to fight hunger, to protecting green spaces and helping to uplift the most vulnerable among us – some of Richmond upon Thames’ most inspiring grassroots initiatives were celebrated at the 2025 Community Heroes Awards on Tuesday evening. With more than 150 nominations across 10 categories, the awards showcased powerful stories of compassion, innovation and leadership from every corner of the borough. You can also get involved in your community by finding a volunteer role at the upcoming RCVS Volunteer Fair!

May bank holidays waste and recycling collections

There will be no changes to the schedule of waste and recycling collections following the two May bank holidays on Monday 5 May and Monday 26 May. We will continue to collect residential waste on your usual collection day.

Help shape Richmond upon Thames' new Transport Strategy

We need your input to develop the Richmond Transport Strategy 2040. This strategy will guide the development of long-term, sustainable, and inclusive transport improvements across the borough. Our goal is to address the emerging needs of residents, businesses, and visitors over the next 15 years. Attend our upcoming public forum at York House on 8 May from 6.30-8pm, where we'll be outlining the new strategy and hosting group discussions with councillors and members of the project team.

VE Day 1945: Your Stories

Ahead of this weekend's celebrations of 80 years since the end of WWII in Europe, we asked you to share your stories of VE Day 1945. We've selected some of the responses that paint a picture of that day both in Richmond upon Thames and in London - featuring American soldiers in East Sheen, the roof of a taxi at Buckingham Palace, and the fond anticipation of a father finally coming home!

We hope that over the bank holiday weekend you will enjoy making some new memories as we come together to remember, reflect, and honour those who lived through such a significant chapter in our history.
