Richmond Council launches Staff Volunteering Policy
Richmond Council has launched a new staff volunteering policy, which will give all staff directly employed by the Council up to two paid volunteering days a year. The Council is working with Richmond CVS to encourage staff to take up volunteering opportunities. Richmond CVS provide a volunteer brokerage service in Richmond and volunteer opportunities can be advertised on their website.
Childhood Immunisation Grants - apply by 23 June 2024
Does your voluntary or community group engage with parents, carers and guardians of children under the age of 5 years old? Groups in Richmond are encouraged to apply for NHS SW London funding of up to £500 to run an event or activity to support conversations about protecting young children against childhood illnesses. Available to organisations of any income size, the aim is to support local communities to have conversations about childhood illnesses and help them make informed decisions about vaccines, and to also collect their feedback. The funding can help cover the cost of an activity or event you have already organised to take place this summer. Find out more and apply now.
Reed in Partnership Employability drop-ins for 18 to 25 year olds
Reed in Partnership are hosting free employability drop-in sessions for young people (aged 18-25 years old) on Friday 21 June 2024 in their Kingston Office and Tuesday 25 June 2024 at Sutton College. The sessions will outline the support available through the government-funded Work Routes service. This includes support with health and wellbeing, skills, and training, and finding and applying for jobs.
The sessions are open to any young people who may benefit from employability support.

Age UK seeking new Chair of Trustees
Age UK Richmond are looking for a new Chair of Trustees to join the charity this autumn to support their work improving the lives of vulnerable and isolated older people across Richmond. They are seeking a dynamic person, to lead the board ensuring that it governs Age UK Richmond effectively. The closing date for applications is Monday 8 July 2024. Sexual and Reproductive Health Strategy stakeholder workshop
Richmond Council is inviting voluntary and community sector partners to participate in a stakeholder workshop on Thursday 11 July 2024 to help plan the next Sexual and Reproductive Health Strategies 2025-30 for Richmond and Wandsworth Boroughs. The workshop will be informed by the recent Sexual and Reproductive Health Needs Assessment for 2024 which was recently presented by Kate Jennings at the Richmond Voluntary Sector Forum.
Heathrow Community Trust Environment and Sustainability grants
Round two of the Heathrow Community Trust Environment and Sustainability Programme is now open for applications from voluntary sector organisations for grants of up to £15,000 for two year projects. This round with be open until 10am on Tuesday 20 August 2024. Projects should be based around one of the following themes:
- Supporting the community by supporting sustainable development
- Protecting and enhancing our natural environment
- Promoting Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Apply for this year's Full of Life Fund
Richmond-based groups and organisations are invited to apply for up to £250 of Full of Life funding to support events and activities from 1-31 October 2024, following on from the main Full of Life Fair at Twickenham Stadium on Friday 27 September 2024. These activities are specifically for older residents and carers, to celebrate and support active, healthy, happy lives and being connected with local communities. Deadline Extended to Help Improve Future Emergency Responses in Richmond
Richmond CVS is continuing to collect feedback and experiences from across the local voluntary, community and faith sectors. Working with Richmond Multi-Agency Borough Resilience Forum, the aim is to improve communication and co-ordination between the voluntary and statutory sectors and enable the borough to better respond in all types of disasters and emergencies. The learning from local groups is essential to this review. Please complete and share the brief online survey with your teams and help ensure a comprehensive real view is provided. FUEL: Free Summer Holiday Clubs
Co-ordinated by Achieving for Children, FUEL provides free holiday activities and food for young people aged between 5 and 16, who are receiving benefit-related free school meals. There are lots of fantastic clubs and activities to choose from where lunch is served on site and runs across a range of dates, time and locations. Eligible families should have received their FUEL booking code via their schools. Please check the FUEL website for more information or to book a place over Summer.

Free tech drop-ins for volunteers and service users
Richmond Council's Library Service are offering free drop-in advice sessions on WhatsApp and smart devices. Sessions may be of interest to service users or volunteers who need a beginner's guide to WhatsApp (19 June 2024) or who want to bring their devices to a drop-in (17-21 June 2024) to get support from library staff.

Increase access to lifesaving defibrillators
Funding is available to local community groups and organisations to provide lifesaving defibrillators for community access. In 2023, there were more than 4,200 cardiac arrests in London outside of a hospital setting. With access to a defibrillator within three to five minutes, the chances of survival increase from 6% to 50-70%. Free sexual health training for staff working with young people
Spectra Young Persons Service are offering our Voluntary Sector partners a series of sexual health professional training courses for staff working with young people in Richmond. Beat the Heat - hot weather preparedness
Everyone is at risk from the health consequences of hot weather, but there are certain factors that increase an individual’s risk. People that are particularly at risk from the effects of hot weather include: older people (65+), babies and young children, people with health conditions, pregnant women, people experiencing homelessness and people who live alone and may be unable to care for themselves. Register with the Met Office for the heat-health alerts service. There are different actions required according to the alert levels which are set out in the Hot weather and health: action cards and the Hot weather and health: supporting vulnerable people information.
Voluntary sector organisations are recommended to display the Beat the Heat poster where possible.
Volunteers needed to water street trees
A group of local volunteers have set up a new community group to coordinate volunteer response to helping ensure young street trees stay appropriately watered during hot/dry months. They are asking for resident volunteers to either volunteer to water a public street tree outside their home, if there is one, or to become a street rep to organise volunteer effort for their whole street. Free training sessions for unpaid carers
Integrated Care Support Services are offering a series of NHS funded online and face to face free training courses for unpaid carers. Courses include fall prevention, medicine management and mental health awareness. For further details and booking please see their upcoming courses flyer.
