We are undertaking essential maintenance works to the Teddington and Lock Cut footbridges. The work will be carried out in phases to minimise the impact on the public. Some of the less disruptive works started in June but we are now ready to commence the main bridge refurbishment works.
The project will aim to address the required maintenance works, including the removal of corrosion and application of a new protective paint system. This phase of works will start from 29 August 2023 and will be completed towards the end of this year.
The expected duration of the works is based on the information we have been able to obtain through site investigations work, undertaken in advance of the actual works. When undertaking works of this nature and on a structure of this age we may find that the condition of the bridge differs from prior assessments. We will make every endeavour to carry out this phase of works within the period we have outlined but will inform you at the earliest opportunity if we anticipate works will take longer than expected.
We have worked closely with the contractor and designers to ensure that access across the bridges is maintained during normal working hours. There will however be the requirement for some limited closures to the bridge (which will take place overnight) to undertake some of the works. These closures will therefore allow the majority of essential journeys to remain unaffected during busier times. Signs will be in place advising of the closure dates and times, as and when they are required.
There will be a second phase of works, which will include the replacement of the approach ramp from Ferry Road. We will have more details of when this will be carried out in due course.
If you experience any difficulties with the works, please contact our Project Team by email on teddingtonbridges@richmond.gov.uk quoting Teddington Bridges. For emergencies affecting public safety outside office hours or at weekends, please contact Careline on 020 8744 2442.
