Family Hub Workforce Development Day
Thank you to all those who signed up and joined our recent Family Hub Workforce Development Day on 27 September 2024. This in person workshop was attended by over 65 practitioners with representatives from many of the 24-core family Hub services in attendance. The event delivered a mix of presentations’, testimonials , quizzes and round table discussions which generated thoughtful insights. These will continue to inform our ongoing Family Hub transformation approach.
The Family Hub induction and learning/development handbooks were finalised from feedback in this session and will shortly be available to access on our Family Hub webpage.
If you were not able to attend the event, we have attached the slide deck presented on the day to this bulletin, simply click on the photo above. Please do get in touch if you want to find out anything more about the presentations or information delivered on the day by emailing familyhub@merton.gov.uk
Introducing the "Why We Get Vaccinated" Campaign
"Why We Get Vaccinated" is a three-year campaign that has been co-produced with London communities to boost vaccination rates in areas with the lowest uptake. The first set of resources feature Black African, Black Caribbean, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Charedi Jewish, Eastern European and Brazilian communities. You can download the toolkit and resources for free, here: www.hackneydesignstudio.com/store
Please localise, use and share these resources. Further assets will be added over the coming months.

Kick the Cloud – empowering young people to say no to vaping
Vapes, or electronic cigarettes are battery-operated devices that can be used to inhale vapour, often containing nicotine. Vaping is generally considered less harmful than smoking, but we still do not know all the long-term effects of vaping. Vapes are recognised as useful tools to stop smoking but are not recommended for those who do not smoke, or for anyone under the age of 18 (OHID, 2023).
Research has shown that 21% of young people (11-17 years) in the UK report that they have tried vaping in 2023 (Action Smoking and Health, 2023), however young people in Merton estimate that figure to be much higher. Following an investigation as to the trends, causes and experiences of young people vaping in Merton, Healthy Dialogues developed a suite of resources to discourage youth vaping, drawing on local insights and behaviour change science. They are free to download and use in schools or youth settings.
