Merton Best Business Awards nominations are now open
Nominations for the Merton Best Business Awards 2024 nominations opened yesterday, at a networking event in Wimbledon to celebrate the best of what the borough has to offer.
Merton Council is proud to be one of the headline sponsors of the event, which is organised by Merton Chamber of Commerce. The council is also sponsoring two categories - the Sport and Fitness Business of the Year, which links to our ambition to make Merton London’s Borough of Sport, and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award.
The awards have a range of categories suited for any business - from large businesses with over 250 employees, through to thriving entrepreneurial businesses and promising start-ups.
The deadline to apply for the award nominations is Friday 14 June, and the winners will be announced at a gala event on Thursday 19 September.
Could your local sports club benefit from grant funding?
The council’s new Borough of Sport grant fund will open for the first round of bidding in April. Grants of up to £5,000 can be spent on coach training, equipment, facility hire or other things that help residents to access sport and physical activity.
Interested bidders are invited to join our Borough of Sport Community Forum on April 3 to find out more.

Get protected against Measles
Measles is on the rise in London. The MMR vaccine is recommended for all babies and young children, but older children and adults can also have it if they were not vaccinated when they were younger.
Speak to a local GP about getting vaccinated if you did not have the illness as a child, if you only had one dose or if you're not sure whether you have been vaccinated.
Rowan Road Recreation Playground upgrades begin
The council has started its playground upgrades programme, starting with Rowan Road Recreation playground.
Based on valuable insights from residents at community feedback events, the council will be transforming this space, and others in Merton, into something new and special.
Stay updated as the borough-wide playground upgrades take place.
