Feature in our promotional video for Merton Libraries

Kiddirama Storytime session

Kiddirama

 

We're looking for families to participate in a special storytime with Kiddirama that will feature in a promotional video about Merton Libraries.

Wednesday 7 February 11am - 12pm at Wimbledon Library

Kiddirama sessions are jam-packed with a fabulous range of props, puppets and songs. Suitable for children under 5.

Numbers are limited and booking is essential.

We're also looking for children aged 10-13 to feature in the promotional video, using some of our Digital Makerspace equipment. They must be able to travel to Wimbledon Library on 7 February, 5.30pm-6pm.

Children's Mental Health Week (5-11 February) is a campaign that empowers, equips and gives a voice to all children and young people in the UK.

To mark this event we have a number of sessions running for children, including, clay sculpting, mindfulness murals, art workshops, special author visits and more!

LGBT+ History Month

LGBT History month

 

LGBT+ History Month is an annual celebration of the lives of LGBT+ people and the contribution they've made to society. This year's theme celebrates LGBT+ peoples’ contribution to the field of Medicine and Healthcare both historically and today.

We have a number of resources residents can access, including our photo archive Merton Memories LGBT+ Photographic Archive and a curated digital book collection: LGBT+ digital book collection

We also have special film screenings:

Film screening for adults on 5 Feb at Wimbledon Library, a musical biopic about a famous British singer and his breakthrough years in the 1970s.

Family film screening on 16 Feb at Wimbledon Library, Space Ranger embarks on an intergalactic adventure alongside ambitious recruits Izzy, Mo, Darby and his robot companion Sox to defeat the Evil Emperor Zurg.

A New Junior Non-Fiction series

Some animals, such as the dog, have been domesticated by humans for long time. This new series of book by Annabel Griffin looks at all the different dogs that we have working alongside us today. How many are you aware of? Find out more by borrowing one of these from your local library – you can find them in the Non-Fiction section – look for the Dewey number 636.7. 


Dorothee in the 20th Century: Saturday Soup

You're invited to a heritage house party!  Dorothee in the 20th Century: Saturday Soup is an immersive performance exploring the lived experience of young African Caribbeans in London during the 1960’s, 70’s and 90’s. This production has been developed over 2 years working with the local Windrush community and their descendants.

Please note that this is a filmed performance with the audience invited to take part in the dance, action and a post-show discussion of the production’s themes.

This project is commissioned by Merton Libraries - Artist's Work in Libraries 2023-24 / Funded by Arts Council England

Merton Voice Box

 

Merton Voice Box

 

The Merton Voice Box is an audio visual art installation taking place in Mitcham, Pollards Hill and Colliers Wood Libraries from the 14 February.

Pop along to one of the specially designed installations and listen to the voices of Merton, as well as pictures and sounds of the borough.

Installation runs until 31 April

Philip Bennett is a professional filmmaker and sound artist from south London, with over 10 years’ experience working on a wide variety of short form documentary and fiction films, experimental and art films as well as commercial work and radio production. Philip also delivers workshops in sound for picture with recent highlights at Goethe Institute & The British Council in Sudan.
