Havering is excited to announce the launch of the new Dementia Strategy.
The aim of the strategy is:
- to raise the profile and importance of dementia care and support.
- to recognise the positive improvement that has taken place and to outline the areas that need greater focus and change.
Dementia support is very important. As Havering residents are now living longer, it is now one of the most prevalent health issues in the borough.
The strategy has the following priorities:
-
Preventing Well – this part of the strategy looks at how we can prevent dementia, as well as spot and diagnose it early.
-
Diagnosing Well – The strategy aims to make sure that residents are diagnosed with dementia as early as possible. It aims to get residents the right support for while they are waiting for their diagnosis and after they have been diagnosed, as well as improving the diagnosis process itself.
-
Supporting Well – Supporting people with dementia, their carers and families to avoid times of crisis.
-
Living Well – Supporting people living with dementia to live well in Havering, have a full life and remain where they wish to live.
-
Dying Well – this part of the strategy looks at supporting people with dementia with their end of life care and with bereavement support.
If you are affected by dementia, contact the Alzheimer's Society in Havering.
