Life-savers

Bleed kit launch at Redden Court School

The Council’s community safety team have delivered life-saving bleed kits to secondary schools across the borough that will help keep pupils and residents safer.

They were joined by Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, Inspector Charlie Routley, Havering Police Safer Neighbourhood and Schools team, Kane Ward, Deputy Headteacher at Redden Court School and Sue Hedges, on behalf of the Ricky Hayden Memorial charity.

The equipment can be used in the event of an emergency where there is a need to seal a wound while waiting for further emergency help to arrive.

The Council will also be delivering kits into other areas as part of its roll-out in supporting community safety. This includes night-time venues and licensees, where night-marshals and other enforcement staff will be trained to use them.

The kits will also be provided to community centres and leisure centres in due course.

Outstanding Schools

Clockhouse Primary school

As schools wind down for the summer holidays, many are on a high after receiving their Ofsted reports.

Among those celebrating is Clockhouse Primary School in Collier Row, which has been rated “Outstanding” across every category. In their previous inspection in June 2020, the school was rated “Good”.

Inspectors, who visited the school in June, said “pupils thrive at this inspiring and supportive school”.

Headteacher Joanna Savidge said:

“We are absolutely overjoyed with the outcome. It has taken a lot of hard work and determination for us get here, with input and dedication from the whole school, so I really would like to thank everyone involved – pupils, staff, governors, parents, in fact, the whole community.”

Among the other schools to recently receive their Ofsted reports are: St Mary’s Primary, Hornchurch (Good); Lime Academy Forest Approach, Harold Hill (Good); Koru Independent AP Academy (Good), Rise Park Infant (Good), Olive AP Academy (Good), and BEP Academy (Good).

Congratulations to all schools in Havering for their hard work. We wish everyone a good summer break.

Harold Hill Masterplan

Top citizens

Have your say on the next phase of works to transform Harold Hill town centre.

Members of the community are being asked to provide their feedback on Phase Two of the Masterplan, which includes the delivery of around 150 high-quality homes between Chippenham Road and Kings Lynn Drive, adjacent to the Farnham and Hilldene shopping area.

The development at Chippenham Road forms a crucial part of the overall town centre regeneration. These plans have been brought forward by Havering Council in joint partnership with Wates, to replace the tired properties with much improved homes for local people that are fit for future generations.

Phase One of the plans, which includes the delivery of a new Family Welcome Centre and Health Centre on the site of the former Abercrombie Hostel, received planning permission in July 2022 with construction works commencing in summer 2023.

The regeneration of the town centre is taking place in a phased approach to maximise benefits to the local area and help minimise construction disruption.

The consultation opened today, Friday 14 July. To view more details on the plans, have your say on the consultation, or attend one of the upcoming drop-in events,  please visit the website. The consultation closes on Tuesday 8 August.

Junior Citizen winning school - Drapers Maylands Primary School

Drapers Maylands Primary School, Romford, were top of the class in this year’s Junior Citizens scheme.

The winning team (pictured) were presented with certificates by the Mayor of Havering, Councillor Stephanie Nunn, at a special lunch at the Town Hall earlier this week.

The scheme saw school children from primary schools across the borough learn important life skills to help them keep safe ahead of making the transition to secondary school later this year.

Held annually, it gives pupils a chance to know how to travel safely on public transport, be more aware of the danger of drugs and knife crime, and what to do in different emergency situations.

It is run by Havering Council’s Community Safety and Enforcement teams alongside partners including, the Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, Safer Transport Police and road safety organisations.

Wennington report

Havering Council has welcomed the release of the report by the London Fire Brigade (LFB) ahead of the one year anniversary of the fire that devastated parts of Wennington.

Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“As we approach the first anniversary of the devastating fire in Wennington I am pleased to see the long-awaited publication of this report from LFB. The fire caused massive disruption to residents in Wennington.

"We continue to be there to help the people and families affected to rebuild their lives and I hope the publication of this report will serve as some form of closure after what has been an immensely difficult year.

“Whilst the report does not provide a definite conclusion on the cause of the fire, one thing we can conclude from the findings and guidance is that fire safety is everyone’s responsibility. As we enter the summer months and the likelihood of higher temperatures it is up to us all to take measures to prevent this type of horrific incident from happening again...

Conservation Week

Cleaning in church in Wennington

The Community Conservation Week at Wennington Village kicked off earlier this week, led by volunteers from the 12 Estates joint venture (JV) partnership between Havering Council and Wates.

The group were joined by businesses that work with the JV and members of the community, working together to give St Mary and St Peter’s Church, and the grounds surrounding the church, a makeover.

Volunteers removed the old broken pathway to the church entrance, and will be replacing it with new path and drainage. They also cleared away weeds and cut the grass.

The inside of the church was given a deep clean, removing cobwebs with the help of a very long duster to reach the beams in the vaulted ceiling.

'Thrilled' with shared-ownership

New Green

Razia, a key worker in the NHS, has said she's "thrilled" with her new shared-ownership flat at the New Green site in Rainham.

New Green is the first scheme to be delivered under the Havering Council and Wates 12 Estates joint venture partnership.

Razia said: “I’m married with two children and I work for the NHS. We were financially struggling to buy a property, but Havering Council helped us get on the ladder with the shared ownership scheme.

"We chose New Green because of its location and easy access to public transport, A13 and M25. We are thrilled and very satisfied with the flat.”

There are just two one-bed, and two two-bed homes still available, and we continue to prioritise applications from NHS staff, social workers and teachers who live and work in Havering.
