Monday 13 July 2020
We have now launched our Havering Hero parking permit scheme.
It offers free parking to NHS and care workers for three hours at a time within certain areas. This includes NHS staff, emergency services and social workers.
The purpose of this permit is to make it easier for the key workers helping the most vulnerable in the community. It will allow them to get around the borough as easily as possible ensuring their patients continue to get the care and medicines they need during the coronavirus crisis. You can read more about this later in this bulletin.
We are also making it easier to visit local shops with our "Stop and Shop" hour of free parking in parking bays in our neighbourhood shopping areas, and use of the RingGo app where you can get 20 per cent off the cost of parking in Havering Council's car parks.
Thanks once again to everyone who followed the health advice at the weekend to socially distance when out shopping or enjoying some of the leisure activities now permitted under new government guidelines.
Please stay safe. If you think you have coronavirus symptoms get tested as soon as you can.
Cllr Damian White,
Leader, Havering Council
Havering Council has launched its Havering Hero parking permit scheme.
The Havering Hero permit enables NHS staff, emergency service employees, domestic carers (people who look after relatives or other residents on a non-paid basis), social care key workers (such as social workers, occupational therapists, home care workers and personal assistants) and those dropping off food and essentials via volunteer services, working for our community hub or for voluntary sector partners to have three hours of free parking in certain areas.
Holders of the new permit wil be able to park in resident parking bays for a maximum stay of 3 hours with no return to that bay for 2 hours, and also in Council-run car parks for a maximum stay of 3 hours with no return to that bay for 2 hours.
Permit holders will not be allowed to to park on single, double yellow lines, bus lanes, restricted bus stops, red route clearways or where there is a loading only or a loading restriction ban in operation.
The permit must be displayed in the windscreen of the permit holder's vehicle.
You can apply to get a Havering Hero permit via the Council's website.

The return of parking enforcement is to ensure that the borough’s road network operates safely and efficiently, in particular for emergency services. It also means that permit holders receive the service they pay for.

Today (13 July) the Government launched a new public information campaign setting out the actions businesses and individuals need to take to prepare for the end of the transition period out of the EU on 31 December 2020.
The campaign will include information for the general public, and for businesses that import or export to the EU.
The end of the transition period will mean many changes. For example, the end of Freedom of Movement will mean that visits by UK nationals to the EU will be limited to no more than 90 days in any 180-day period.
Government advice includes:
- Making sure you are ready to travel to Europe from 1 January 2021 by getting comprehensive travel insurance, ensuring your passport is valid, and checking your roaming policy with your mobile phone provider.
- If you want to travel to Europe with your pet from 1 January 2021, contact your vet at least four months before you travel.
- Making sure your business is ready to export or import from or to the EU, for example by getting an EU EORI number, or registering with the relevant Customs Authority.

Havering Council is recruiting volunteers aged over 50 who can use their life experiences to help local young people to achieve their aspirations.
More mature people are being sought to become Future Choice Mentors for young people between the ages of 18 and 24 who are in care or who have left care to help them to achieve their goals in employment, education and training.
There are currently around 250 young people in care in the borough living in foster care, semi-independently or in residential accommodation.

All London buses are now taking payments after enhanced safety measures were installed across the fleet to protect drivers and customers from coronavirus.
Customers are now required to touch in with Oyster, contactless and concessionary cards on all buses, entering through the front doors on most buses in a near complete return to traditional front-door boarding arrangements.
Temporary bus capacity limits have now been increased in line with the Government’s latest social distancing guidance.
Double-decker buses can now carry 30 passengers, while single-deckers, depending on size, can carry either 11 or 14 passengers.
Signs on buses clearly mark these new passenger limits, and drivers have the discretion to allow more customers on board if they are travelling in household groups.
A one customer off, one customer on policy operates on buses at full capacity.
