Experience Narnia

Narnia Experience

From Saturday 14 to Tuesday 24 December, Romford Market will be a great place to get into the seasonal spirit.

There will be a host of special attractions and events including a mini funfair each day from 11am to 4pm (3pm on Christmas Eve), alongside stalls selling gifts and seasonal food.

This year The Narnia Experience, an interactive installation for children and families, will be free to visit with entry on a first come, first served basis.

Participants will enter the experience via a wardrobe and go into a magical winter-themed room where they encounter costumed perfomers. The room also features a 3D sound design and dazzling lighting installation.

One week to go

Polling station voting

If you applied for a postal vote to use in next week's General Election you should return your postal vote now.

When you're ready to return your postal vote, take it to the postbox yourself.

If you can't post it yourself, you can ask someone you know and trust to post it for you. Avoid asking a candidate or party worker to post it for you.

Your postal vote needs to be with Havering Council by 10pm on polling day to be counted.

If you can't post your postal vote back in time, you can take it to your polling station or to Havering Town Hall on polling day.

Our elections page has information on a change to a polling station in Havering-atte-Bower and some changes to parking arrangements at a few other polling stations.

Double scoop

Havering Council winning teams picture Dec 2019

Havering Council is celebrating winning two prestigious awards for its work with children and young people.

The Cocoon, already described as “highly impressive” by Ofsted, won the Leaving Care Award for the initiative that has done the most to help young people leaving care to make a smooth transition to adulthood, at the Children and Young People Now Awards.

Meanwhile, the Council’s Early Help Volunteering Service was awarded the Public Sector Children’s Team award for doing the most to improve the life chances of babies and young children, especially in disadvantaged and hard–to-reach communities.

Have you got the bottle?

Water bottles 2019

When you are shopping, remember there are lots of places now where you can refill a water bottle for free.

Swapping single-use plastic bottles for reusable water bottles is just one way that Havering Council’s Waste and Recycling team is raising awareness of waste and environmental issues.

It's on Friday 13 December at the Brewery Romford, near McDonald's on Level 1, from 10am – 3pm.

The day is an opportunity to meet the local charities in Havering that support residents in receiving the best care and services for their needs.

If you like what you see there will be a chance to volunteer for one of them.

Organisations wishing to take part should email: volunteering@haveringvc.org.uk by 5 December or call 01708 922214 to find out more.

Early diagnosis is vital

Sexual health

Local GPs are urging people in Havering to have a free HIV test to ensure everyone living with the condition can receive the right support to stay healthy.

People with advanced HIV or AIDS are more likely to have a weakened immune system – meaning they are at much greater risk from flu. This makes it all the more important they book in for a free NHS vaccination this winter.
