News for Havering residents, Thursday 1 August 2019.
A lot of my focus over the last week has been on the south of our borough.
Last week I saw the Council working with staff from one of our joint-venture planning partners, Wates Residential, to help clear-up Berwick Woods in Rainham.
We want to highlight those who persist in blighting our borough with littering, fly-tipping, dropping chewing gum and not clearing up their dog mess, which is why we need residents to do their part and work with us for a Cleaner, Safer, Prouder Havering, together.
Earlier this week I was proud to witness at first hand a significant milestone in our regeneration plans for Rainham with the start of demolition of the Napier and New Plymouth House tower blocks.
This event marked a new and exciting chapter in the future of Havering and the Council’s commitment to double the amount of council rented accommodation and more than doubling the number of affordable homes for local people, including former residents, who will get the right to return to a brand new home.
We are ensuring that this investment in the borough goes much further than just creating new homes; through our supply chain initiative, meet the buyer events, training opportunities and apprenticeships, we can make sure the project benefits as many businesses and residents of Havering as possible.

Demolition has begun on one of London’s biggest housing regeneration projects, marking a significant step forward for the £1 billion scheme.
The project will deliver around 5,200 high quality homes over the next 12 to 15 years, doubling the amount of council rented accommodation and more than doubling the number of affordable homes.
A litter pick was held last week to help make the borough a cleaner and tidier place to live.
Havering Council and Wates Residential, one of the Council's joint venture partners for the regeneration of 12 Council housing estates across the borough, worked together to collect litter from Berwick Woods in Rainham.
If you are finding it hard to keep the children entertained during the long school summer holiday take a look our Summer Fun booklet.

Havering Council is consulting residents and landlords regarding the extension of its successful landlord licensing scheme.
Plans to expand the scheme from the current 12 wards would see regulation of local housing in multiple occupancy (HMOs) rolled out to a further six wards in the borough, covering Cranham, Emerson Park, Hacton, Hylands, Saint Andrews and Upminster.
The proposals will also consider looking at introducing a selective licensing scheme to cover single family properties in Romford Town and Brooklands wards.
