The first plans for the borough’s biggest regeneration project were submitted to Havering Council's planning department earlier this week, marking a significant step forward for the scheme.

Joint venture partners Havering Council and Wates Residential submitted plans for the Napier and New Plymouth House site in Rainham on Monday.

The site is one of 12 included in the Estate Regeneration Programme, which will see around 3,000 homes delivered in the borough over the next 12 to 15 years. The project will seek to increase the amount of council rented accommodation and double the amount of affordable housing, while the right to return to their homes is guaranteed to all residents.

Blooming lovely

RMC wisteria
PC Watt

A new permanent exhibition in Romford Cemetery this summer will tell the stories of some of those laid to rest: heroes, villains, entrepreneurs, sportsmen and artists.

The exhibition includes PC Watt (pictured) who gave his life attempting to stop a runaway horse in Romford High Street in 1913 and received a Carnegie Hero Award. The cemetery in Crow Lane is well worth a visit this month if you want to catch a sight of the glorious wisteria display (also pictured) currently adorning the flower terrace.
