Help with recruitment

Leader at launch of Havering Works Dec 2018

The Council has launched a new service set to help local people find jobs and develop key employment skills, while providing local businesses with essential new talent.

Havering Works has been developed alongside the Council’s Employment and Skills plan. It's funded by London Councils and the European Union's Social Fund and is also supported by SEGRO. The scheme will include job coaching, job search support and confidential one-to-one assessment of an individual's skills and training.

For businesses the new service will help local businesses to recruit, train and retain valuable employees and provide a zero cost recruitment and talent match service.

Plan ahead

Ardleigh Green Bridge 2018

Contractors working for Transport for London (TfL) will be carrying out further works on the A127 Ardleigh Green bridge over the Christmas period.

From 10am on Sunday 23 December until 1.30pm on Monday 24 December, and again from 5.30am on Christmas Day until 5am on Boxing Day, there will be a westbound closure of the A127 Southend Arterial Road (between Gallows Corner and Squirrels Heath/Ardleigh Green Road).

In addition, from 9pm on Sunday 23 December until 7am on Monday 24 December the A127 will be closed to traffic in both directions overnight.

TfL say that access for pedestrians and residents will be maintained throughout the works.

If you are planning rail travel over the festive period you should be aware of some major engineering works that may affect your journey.

From Sunday 23 until midday on Thursday 27 December there will be no TfL Rail or Greater Anglia services between Liverpool Street and Shenfield while Network Rail carry out improvements for Crossrail. Rail replacement buses will run between Stratford and Romford (except Maryland) and between Newbury Park (which is now step-free) and Shenfield, calling at all stations via Chadwell Heath.

From midday on Thursday 27 December until Tuesday 1 January there will be no TfL Rail service between Liverpool Street and Romford and no Greater Anglia service between Liverpool Street and Shenfield. Rail replacement buses will run between Newbury Park and Romford via Chadwell Heath. Trains will run around every 15 minutes between Romford and Shenfield.

The scheme, which is the first of its kind in the UK, provides between 30 to 35 per cent cashback to SMEs when they replace older, polluting boilers, with new, cleaner systems.

Are you ready for ULEZ?

ULEZ sign

The central London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) begins in April 2019.

The ULEZ will require vehicles driving into central London to meet new emissions standards or pay a daily charge. The scheme will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, within the existing Congestion Charging Zone and is in addition to the existing Congestion Charge.

The scheme is designed to tackle the problem of toxic air in London. Around half of London’s air pollution is caused by road transport and the ULEZ is one of a range of measures to clean it up.
