 This year is the 100th anniversary of the Armistice at the end of the First World War.
Havering Council is supporting a campaign called “There But Not There” that will see large silhouettes of a British soldier from the First World War placed at locations across the UK to remind people of the enormous sacrifice made by servicemen and women in that conflict.
You can our "Tommy" silhouette at a number of locations in the borough until the end of the year. It's also being used to highlight the many Remembrance Sunday services, parades and beacon lighting events being held across Havering on Sunday 11 November.
The 2018 Poppy Appeal was launched in Havering at a ceremony held earlier today in the Mercury Mall, Romford attended by the Mayor of Havering, Cllr Dilip Patel.
 The first Havering Literary Festival begins on Monday. It features renowned writers and poets including Jeffrey Archer, Kimberley Chambers and Roger McGough and takes place in libraries across the borough.
West Ham legend Tony Cottee, children's author Ross Barker, Havering Cabinet Member for Culture Cllr Viddy Persaud, and writer Vernal Scott (pictured) were present at Hornchurch library for a launch event earlier this week.

 Havering Council has continued enforcement action against criminal landlords, issuing £261,750 in penalty notices in just six months.
The Council’s Landlord Licensing Scheme, which started in 12 wards across the borough earlier this year, requires private landlords of housing of multiple occupancy (HMOs) to apply for a licence.
Between March and September of this year, the Council’s enforcement team has dealt with:
- 81 financial penalty notices
- 9 notices served to address poor housing standards
- 143 licence applications served
- £124,191 licensing fees collected
