Lower Thames Crossing

Lower Thames crossing

Highways England has launched a consultation on the latest designs for the Lower Thames Crossing, a major new road linking Kent, Thurrock and Essex which would nearly double road capacity across the river Thames.

The 14.5 mile route connecting Gravesham in Kent and Thurrock in Essex would create a new, three-lane dual carriageway connecting the M2 near Rochester and the M25 in Essex between North and South Ockendon. It would include a 2.4 mile-long tunnel under the Thames between Gravesend and Tilbury (pictured) that would be the longest road tunnel in the UK.

Take a look at the plans, attend one of the public meetings that will be held at venues including Upminster, Hornchurch and Romford, and have your say before 20 December 2018 .

Since the Veggie Run and the West Ham United Foundation partnership was announced Veggie Run has two new players on the leader board. Last week Adrián and Arthur Masuaku from West Ham United had a chance to play the updated version of Veggie Run.

After avidly playing the game and seeing the benefits for children in Havering, West Ham defender Arthur Masuaku placed his score and challenged pupils, “Is your score on the leader board?”

Veggie Run aims to teach children about healthy eating through game play and in-school healthy catered lunches. Purchase your child a lunch here and they may win a chance to visit the West Ham Stadium on 7 November.

Time for Tommy

Tommy vertical cropped image

This year is the 100th anniversary of the Armistice at the end of the First World War.

Havering Council is supporting a campaign called “There But Not There” that will see large six foot high silhouettes of a British soldier from the First World War placed at locations across the UK to remind people of the enormous sacrifice made by servicemen and women in that conflict.

You can see one of these "Tommy" silhouettes at a number of locations in our borough until the end of the year. It will also be used to highlight our Remembrance Sunday services, parades and beacon lighting events on 11 November. Find out where you can see "Tommy".
