After refusing to accept London Mayor’s Office for Police and Crime (MOPAC) decision to close police access points in the south of the borough, Havering Council has successfully negotiated an agreement to acquire Hornchurch Police station, guaranteeing a local police presence.
There's still time to have your say in our budget consultation. It runs until 30 September 2018. To help you understand the financial issues facing your council we're holding a series of public meetings including one next Thursday at the North Romford Community Centre in Collier Row on Thursday 20 September from 6.30 - 8pm.

The Safer Neighbourhood Board, run by Havering Council, is teaming up with the Met Police and London Fire Brigade to host a Safer Community Day, on Saturday 29 September, in
Romford Market Place from 10am-3pm.
You'll be able to get advice
on where and how to report crime, and information on how to deal with or report scams, burglaries and unwanted cold-callers.
Your local NHS and councils are looking for a wide mix of people to join a new online Citizens’ Panel – and you don’t need to leave the sofa to help.
The East London Health & Care Partnership believe it’s important that local people are involved in shaping local health and care services.
Using your phone or computer, at a time that suits you, you’ll be able to share your views through short surveys. It won't take more than 20 minutes of your time every four to six weeks. You don’t need to use or know about health or care services to be involved.

We are keen to hear from parents,
carers, residents, education providers, stakeholders and any other interested
parties on the 2019 - 2023 Draft Commissioning

early years, primary, secondary, post-16, special school and alternative
provision places across the borough.
The consultation survey can be accessed here if you are a parent of a school age child, or here if you are an education provider, a local resident, or another stakeholder. You'll be able to leave your views and comments.
This consultation runs until 5 November 2018.

The first ever Havering Literary Festival will take place this November.
Over three weeks exciting events featuring renowned writers and poets including Jeffrey Archer, Alison Weir and Candice Brown will take place in libraries across the borough.
Come and see the final project plans from the Land of the Fanns team for the River Rom Restoration Project and find out about future events and volunteering opportunities.
There will be guided river walks, a scavenger hunt, wildlife roadshow, crafts for children and more this Saturday (15 September) between 10am and 2pm at Grenfell Park, just across the River Rom from the YMCA building in Rush Green Road.

Parents will be sharing their own experience of being a
parent on a new course starting in Havering next month.
Being a Parent will give parents and carers of children
between the ages of two and five, the chance to develop their skills and
knowledge with support from other local parents.
The course is free and is led by parents who have completed a
training course in parenting.

Local residents and
businesses are being invited to see plans to transform an area
of Romford within the ring-road.
Havering Council has entered into a joint venture with First Base, an urban
regeneration specialist and Savills Investment Management, who own land in
Bridge Close, to bring forward new homes, workspace, a new school and health
services for Romford.
Plans also
include a new pedestrian bridge with direct access to Romford station
and the revitalisation of the stretch of the River Rom that runs through the Bridge Close area, so that it can be
enjoyed by all.
The public
exhibition will be held on Saturday 29
September, from 10am-4pm at the Brewery Shopping Centre.
Earlier this year Transport for London launched a public consultation on measures to reduce traffic and improve air quality in central London.
The new proposals would see the exemption from the Congestion Charge for private hire vehicles removed, and the introduction of a new Cleaner Vehicle Discount to replace the Ultra Low Emission Discount. The consultation closes on 28 September.
