Plans made by the Romford Town Management
Partnership to form a Business Improvement District (BID) were approved
at last Wednesday's Havering Council cabinet meeting and business owners in the town
centre will now be balloted to see if it has their support in June.
Andrew
Blake-Herbert, Chief Executive of Havering Council, said: “We
will always do our best to nurture, support and provide spaces for local
businesses to thrive. The
Romford Business Improvement District will offer local businesses a stronger
voice in the community, and a more effective environment for success.”
On Thursday 3 May Havering will go to the polls to have their say on who represents them at a local level. Local government elections select councillors, who are responsible for making decisions on running services in Havering including housing, education, transport, planning, parks, leisure, social care and waste management.
In order to vote in this election, residents must be on the electoral register. Paying council tax does not automatically make you eligible to vote. The deadline to register to vote is midnight tonight (Tuesday 17 April). If you're not already registered you can apply online. It takes just five minutes.
For information on where to vote, and on all the candidates standing in your ward, visit the elections page of our website.
Once again, Romford Market celebrates St George with a riot of flags and bunting as well as events all through the day.
Magicians throughout the market, stilt walkers, British Beefeaters, street entertainers and music and more will make a great day out this Saturday...and its all free !!

The Council’s new refuse truck design with the catchy strapline – ‘Watch Your Wasteline’, is part of efforts to reduce the amount of waste in Havering.
Currently, up to 50 per cent of black bag rubbish in the borough is food waste, and it costs the Council just under £15 million to dispose of all that waste.
