Havering Council’s cabinet has approved plans to
appoint Notting Hill Housing Trust as its Joint Venture partner to deliver a multi-million
pound regeneration project that will transform the south of the borough. The
funding for the scheme will now be subject to approval at a meeting of the full
council on 21 February.
The Joint Venture partnership will see the Council work with
the Trust to build at least 774 new homes in Beam Park. The ambitious project will
be delivered without burdening Council Tax payers.
The mixed-tenure development
will provide 35 per cent affordable housing including properties for affordable
rent, shared ownership, and market sale. These will include one, two and three bedroom flats and houses.

From today visitors and traders will be able to use Wi-Fi in Romford Market.
Providing internet access in Market Place has been an ambition for the Council. This will allow traders and visitors to use contactless and chip & pin technology.
The service will be available throughout Market Place and on a small part of North Street where regular traders have stalls.

Working parents of 3 and 4 year olds can access free childcare for up to 30 hours a week
during term-time or 22 hours a week over a full calendar year. This provides a saving of around £5,000 a year on childcare costs.
A parent, and their partner if in a couple, must be working and earn on
average 16 hours a week at national minimum or national living wage but less
than £100,000 a year each. Families may still be eligible if they are on
maternity, paternity or adoption leave for another child, or unable to work
because they are disabled or have caring responsibilities.
To be
eligible from January 2018 parents must apply before Christmas. More information here.
UK Power
Networks is running a national campaign
called Be Winter Ready encouraging people to prepare in case they experience a power cut or gas
emergency.
Be winter ready by knowing your free emergency numbers: In a
power cut dial 105 or, for a gas emergency, dial 0800 111999.
Vulnerable households can
get extra support by signing up to the Priority Services Register.

Havering Council's parks team are currently recruiting apprentices to work in either Grounds Maintenance
or the Park Rangers team.
The
apprenticeships will be for 20 months. Rangers
apprentices will work alongside the Park Rangers and assist with the practical
management of the country parks and some urban parks.
Grounds
Maintenance apprentices will work in a number of different parks during their
training period in order to give them the opportunity to obtain the maximum
experience. Closing date for applications is 19 December.

As the year comes to an end, Havering Council is urging
residents to open their hearts and homes and foster a local child in their
community.
The Council needs new foster carers to support the 259 children
living in care. As the year comes to an end you could give the gift of
fostering and help a child this year.
