Students in Havering (including those pictured at Coopers Company and Coborn schoool in Upminster) have
achieved outstanding A-level results, with exam passes exceeding the national
pass rate once again. Havering students achieved an overall 99 per cent pass rate,
which is 1.1 per cent higher than the overall national result.
Councillor Robert Benham,
Cabinet Member for Children and Learning, said:
“Today’s outstanding results
show how hard work and dedication is rewarded. Many of our students will now be
attending university, starting apprenticeships, beginning an adventurous gap
year or joining the workforce. I wish them all every success."

Don't forget that if your child is starting Year 6 at school this September you will need to apply for a place in secondary school between 1 September and 31 October.
Havering has been awarded prestigious Green Flag awards for 13 of our parks - two more than last year. The Green Flag Award, which recognises the best parks and green spaces around the UK and the world, was won for the first time at Harrow Lodge Park and Haynes Park.
This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

There are many forms of child sexual exploitation, and a
growing concern is the increase of online abuse particularly over the long school summer holiday.
This can happen when a young person is persuaded, or
forced, to send or post sexually explicit images of themselves, take part in sexual activities via a webcam or smartphone, or have sexual conversations by text or online.
Young
people may not be aware that they're being exploited. Often they are groomed to
believe that they are in a relationship, and don't understand that they're
being abused or are too embarrassed to tell anyone what's happening.
Make sure you know who your child is talking to. Report any concerns to tmash@havering.gov.uk

Havering Council's free family show, sponsored by West & Coe, and Time 107.5FM is just days away. It returns to Harrow Lodge Park,
Hornchurch, on Sunday 27 and Monday 28 August, 11am-7pm.
In addition to the main headline acts including Kenny Thomas this year the main stage also features local acts like Upminster singer, Jess Herring who recently graduated from Colins Performing Arts College in Romford, and BBC Let it Shine TV star, Luke Stanley.
The Rainham Championship Wrestling Alliance (RCWA) wrestlers will also be performing at the show after their great performance last year. RCWA star Will Ospreay is signed with New Japan Pro Wrestling, the second largest wrestling promotion company in the world. The wrestlers will be based in the Performance Zone on both days.
Rounding off the Fairkytes Live stage on Monday afternoon will be the legendary Paul Young and his band, Los Pacaminos, performing some rocking texmex songs.

The Mayor of London
is promoting a scheme to help vulnerable residents in London prepare for winter.
The
‘Better Boilers’ scheme replaces and repairs inefficient and broken boilers for
free, for owner occupied households in London, who receive qualifying
benefits.
The
closing date for new applications is Thursday 31 August 2017 (or earlier if funds
are allocated before that date).
To
date, The Better Boilers scheme has provided hundreds of Londoners with average
energy bill reductions of around £150 per household, among other benefits such
as a reduced risk of carbon monoxide poisoning and improved local air quality.

Havering
has been awarded a £126,000
funding boost by TfL to pave the way for electric vehicles in the borough.
The Council’s successful bid to install charging points in the borough’s
streets puts us at the forefront of the move to help motorists make the switch
from driving polluting vehicles to those with zero-emissions. The on-street
residential charge points for those without off-street parking will be in
addition to the rapid ones TfL is installing across London by the end of 2020.
Havering already has charging points at CEME, Marsh Way, Rainham (pictured) and at
both Gidea Park and Harold Wood railway stations.
