Camden is the first place in the UK to commemorate Russian pro-democracy campaigner Boris Nemtsov
Last week we named a junction in Highgate ‘Boris Nemtsov Place’ – after the assassinated politician who spoke out against Vladimir Putin. Boris Nemtsov (1959 – 2015) was Deputy Prime Minister of Russia under Boris Yeltsin, who later led the opposition and openly criticised Vladimir Putin’s government.
The location of Camden’s Boris Nemtsov Place – at the junction of Highgate Road, Highgate West Hill and Swain's Lane – is just a stone’s throw away from the now closed Russian Trade Delegation. New street signs and an information board mark the spot.

Children and council tenants to benefit from £0.5million waste windfall bonus
We are using a windfall payment of £475,000 provided by the North London Waste Authority (NLWA) to help people in the borough who are being hit hard by the cost of living crisis.
The NLWA’s publicly owned ‘waste-to-energy’ facility has made more money this year because of higher energy prices, which has allowed them to make the windfall payment to the Council. The money will used for two borough projects, which support children’s healthy diets and energy efficiency in residents’ homes.
New strategy to improve how we work with children who have special needs
We’ve approved a new plan to improve services for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families in Camden. The new strategy aims to improve support and outcomes for children and young people aged up to 25 years old with SEND over the next five years.

Could you help to provide a safe and secure home to someone in need?
Our landlord appeal is helping to provide homes for people experiencing homelessness.
Private landlord, Phil Jones, has a property close to Great Ormond Street Hospital. It was the perfect location for a young mother and her two-year-old son who has a cardiac condition and needs major operations over the next two years.
“My tenant was previously homeless and then lived in very poor housing. Her evident joy at being told she could move in was quite something. Knowing that our former home is now housing someone who really needs it, is a good feeling” said Phil.
If you’re a private landlord, please get in touch. Letting your property with us will help create an opportunity for someone to leave homelessness behind for good. Contact the Camden Lettings team on 020 7974 4158 or at camdenlettings@camden.gov.uk
If you’re at risk of being homeless, visit camden.gov.uk/at-risk-of-being-homeless or call 020 7974 4444 (option 9).

To help everyone stay warm this winter, ‘warm welcome’ spaces are available across Camden where you can relax, meet up with others and get advice with the cost of living crisis in a safe and warm place. Claim your pre-pay energy meter vouchers
This winter, most households will receive a £400 government-funded discount on energy bills. This will be applied to electricity bills and does not need to be repaid. If you have a pre-pay energy meter, from October 2022 you will receive monthly vouchers for 6 months from the Government’s Energy Bills Support Scheme. These need to be claimed within 90 days from the date the voucher was issued, so if you have a pre-pay energy meter, please claim yours before it expires. If you’re on a shared heating network or an oil-based heating system, the Government has committed to an equivalent level of support – details to be confirmed. Find out more on the Government's dedicated cost of living website.

Community Infrastructure Levy Consultation
When new building projects take place in Camden, developers are charged a fee known as the Community Infrastructure Levy. As well as using some of this money to fund key infrastructure across the borough we also use some of it to help make sure that the development contributes towards the local area.
To make sure that the funds are spent on the things most important to your community, we’d love to hear your views. The consultation closes on the 19 December.

Parliamentary constituencies are changing – have your say
The Boundary Commission for England is redrawing constituency boundaries to make sure that an equal number of residents are represented by each MP. The final consultation on proposed new constituencies is now open. A new revised map of constituency proposals, which takes into account feedback sent in by the public on the initial proposals, has been published on the consultation website. You can send in your views before the closing date of 5 December.
