National Hate Crime Awareness Week in Camden
Here in Camden, we’re proud to support National Hate Crime Awareness Week this week, which runs until 15 October. The week is about raising awareness of hate crimes and incidents – what they are, how to report them, and where to get support – and standing in solidarity with anyone who has been impacted by a hate crime.
Recognising and reporting hateful and discriminatory behaviour is really important for us to help tackle hate crime and there are a number of different ways to report this behaviour to an organisation you trust. You can learn how to recognise a hate crime and how to report it at camden.gov.uk/hate-crime
Hate crime can understandably have a really big physical, emotional or psychological impact. If you have been affected by a hate crime or discriminatory behaviour, please know we’re here for you. We’re proud to work with a range of partners to support you, and you can find information about different organisations offering support at the link above. We’re committed to keep working with our partners and communities to ensure we’re building a safe, strong and equal Camden.

Support and advice for private renters in Camden
One third of households in Camden privately rent and unfortunately many experience problems with their landlords. We want private tenants to have safe and decent homes and to know where to go for advice if they are experiencing poor housing conditions.
Many private tenants are not aware of their rights and end up living in homes that are in disrepair. Watch our video and hear the experiences of local tenants and the support and advice available from the Council.
If you’re a private tenant and currently dealing with similar issues or need support with any housing issue, visit camden.gov.uk/privaterenters

Free flu jabs and COVID-19 boosters available
Winter is coming when illnesses like flu can spread more easily. The effects of flu and of COVID-19 can be more serious if you are elderly, have a pre-existing health condition like heart disease or diabetes, are immunosuppressed or if you live with, care for, or work closely with people who are. The flu vaccine and COVID-19 booster can boost your immunity, giving yourself and those around you the best protection.
The NHS is currently offering free flu jabs and COVID-19 boosters to the following priority groups:
- People aged 50+
- Frontline health and social care workers
- Pregnant women
- People aged 12+ who are immunosuppressed or at high risk with pre-existing health conditions
- People who live with someone who is immunosuppressed or in a high-risk group
If you or someone you know falls into one these groups and has been contacted by the NHS or their GP about a flu vaccination or booster, please get vaccinated as soon as you can. You can visit an NHS vaccination clinic, our vaccination bus or a pharmacy offering walk-in appointments. You can also book flu vaccination appointments in advance or book your COVID-19 booster. You can also book over the phone by calling 119 for free.
It is safe to have the flu vaccine and COVID-19 booster at the same time if you want to.

150 new charge points for electric cars in Camden
Electric car drivers can now benefit from new charge points across the borough, which will be added on our existing public charging network.
Councillor Adam Harrison said: “Through our Citizens’ Assembly, people in Camden told us that tackling the climate emergency is a priority. Giving people an alternative to polluting vehicles is a key to achieve this. I’m glad that we’re responding to this call by giving people the means to make a positive change to their behaviour.”

Could you help support Ukrainian refugees in Camden?
Since March, over 200 Camden households have welcomed and supported Ukrainian arrivals by offering them a space in their home. This is incredible and we’d like to thank everyone who’s kindly opened their homes and shown the community spirit that makes Camden special.
The war in Ukraine is still ongoing, with people and families being forced to flee their homes. If you’re able to help, you could consider signing up to the Homes for Ukraine scheme.
If you are interested in becoming a host, get in touch with us at ukrainesupport@camden.gov.uk

We know there are small spaces on Camden estates that could be improved by building new homes. Our residents know their communities best, which is why we want your views.
Join us for a free tea or coffee and tell us how to make the most out of our underused land by building new and affordable homes.
Take part by dropping into Kentish Town Library between 11am-4pm on Saturday 15 October.

Take part in our consultation on irresponsible dog owners
We’re considering introducing a new Public Spaces Protection Order to tackle issues around antisocial behaviour associated with irresponsible dog owners in Camden.
The measures include £100 on-the-spot fines for not clearing up dog mess, not putting dogs on leads when requested by authorised officers, and not keeping dogs out of some areas in Camden’s parks and green spaces. You can take part in the consultation until 27 October.
