Lambeth Council plans to trial a new Health Neighbourhood in Kennington Triangle. The scheme aims to reduce road danger, improve air quality and enhance the area. The proposed trial is going out to residents, businesses and stakeholders for consultation over the next month. It is expected to go live later this year and will aim to prioritise walking, cycling, scooting, and wheeling, to reduce through-traffic in the area.

Climate change means that Lambeth is increasingly at risk of surface water flooding as extreme rain events become more severe and frequent. Sustainable drainage schemes (SuDS) offer a way of protecting peoples homes and neighborhoods while also boosting biodiversity.
Construction has resumed on a major sustainable drainage scheme on St Matthews Estate. The Brixton-based scheme will include new channels and planting to improve drainage, as well as a nature trail to weave through the new biodiversity areas.
Norwood Park is also under construction. A new permeable pathway is being installed alongside the sports courts (pictured). Planted swales (long dug-out channels) are also being installed to direct water towards timber leaky dams to slow water flow across the park. The new features will allow us to add more biodiverse planting, helping pollinators.
Cycle Sisters empowers Muslim women to cycle more, promoting health, wellbeing, and social inclusion. With over 150 local members, they offer free weekly sessions, building confidence and confronting stereotypes despite facing occasional abuse. Supported by Lambeth Council and Brompton Bike Hire, the initiative provides free bikes to encourage active lifestyles. Cycle Sisters organiser Sarah Javaid said: βMen make three times as many journeys as women. We want to try and address this, help make cycling more open, more welcoming for more people, so everyone can have the opportunity to benefit from cycling.
Cycle Sisters exemplifies how climate initiatives can enhance public health, build resilient communities, and promote equality.

Dr Bike sessions are starting again
At Dr Bike sessions, experienced mechanics check everything on your bike, from wheels, brakes, gears and tyre pressure to lights, racks, pedals, saddles and more.
They make any minor adjustments they can to the bike there and then. If there is anything they can't fix on-site, they will inform you exactly what needs doing and provide a rough guide to what it should cost at a bike shop.
All their mechanics are friendly and approachable and have a wealth of cycling knowledge, so feel free to ask them questions about cycle training or other cycling activities.
