Bring Some Christmas Cheer with Age UK Lambeth's MYHoHoHo Christmas Dinner Appeal
Age UK Lambeth have launched their popular MYHoHoHo Christmas campaign to bring comfort and joy to isolated older people this holiday season. Recognising the importance of connection and care for our older population - many of whom may be facing loneliness and isolation - Age UK Lambeth is determined to address the issue of loneliness, which affects 1.2 million older people across the UK.
They are looking for kind-hearted volunteers to share an extra serving of Christmas dinner with an older neighbour in need of company.
Sign up to volunteer and give back to the community this Christmas. Cook an extra portion on Christmas Day and give someone the gift of a home-cooked holiday meal.
- You will be matched with an isolated person (or people) in your area
- You will be able to collect a goody bag and plate from us (for each person)
- Cook an extra dinner and deliver it to the person on Christmas day!

Could You Help Out At Black Culture Market's Christmas Event?
Black Culture Market was established to celebrate black culture and commerce in the local community. The event gives entrepreneurs of all ages of African and Caribbean descent visibility for them to flourish and make cultural products more accessible.
On Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th December, Black Culture Market's Christmas Event will take place in The Department Store, Brixton from 11am to 5pm (public times) for Small Business Saturday. Plans are in place to make it an even greater success than last year, so there is a lot to do! Black Culture Market needs people who can help set up (Friday 6th December), meet and greet guests at reception (Sat 7th - Sun 8th Dec) and/or help pack it away (Sunday 8th December).
Support needed is as follows:
Friday 6th Dec - Set up is 9.30am to 1pm
Saturday 7th Dec - 9.30am - 1.30pm or 1.30 - 5.30pm - Event Support (or full day)
Sunday 8th Dec - 10.30am - 2.30pm or 2pm - 7pm - Event Support and pack down (or full day) They particularly need people for the Sunday.
If you have the stamina to do all 3 phases that would be amazing but being part of any phase would be great - (for at least 4 hours ideally at the beginning or end of the shift).

Streatham Lunch Club Gives Thanks to Volunteers
Streatham’s Lunch Club has now been open a year.
What started as a small initiative last winter for people struggling with the awful decision to ‘heat or eat’. has grown into a community hub open three days a week at St Leonard’s Church and the Woodlawn Centre.
2024 in numbers
- 59 people worked 3,704 volunteer hours – preparing and cooking food, serving it to customers, listening to them and making connections.
- Served 4,646 meals, with every plate also a chance to give someone a gateway to other charities and sources of support.
- The Lunch Club saved 18,756 kg of ‘surplus’ food from waste and made it into meals for those most in need.
- Distributed 13,045 kg of food to families and individuals struggling with food insecurity through the community pantry.
- Doors open 104 days. For the new year, the dream is to open five days a week, as the number of people needing help seems to grow every week.
The Lunch Club was started by Richard Pike who left the corporate world to start a charity to provide nutritious, fresh, hot lunches, social interaction, and support to vulnerable individuals facing poverty or financial hardship. He says: “None of it would be possible without support from volunteers, fundraisers and donations - thanks to them, we’re making a difference, together.”
