Hello,
Lambeth is proudly a Borough of Sanctuary, and as part of our commitment to welcoming refugees and asylum seekers, we are once again inviting residents to buy a Christmas gift for a local sanctuary-seeking child. Over the last two Chrismases we’ve facilitated 800 gifts from local residents and charities to children who have had to flee their homes. This year, we are hoping to secure 330 gifts which will be given to the children by Father Christmas at three planned events. So please email sanctuary@lambeth.gov.uk for more information and help us spread some festive cheer!

Lambeth’s new property licensing scheme is set to be rolled out across most of the borough after a successful launch in four wards earlier this year. Lambeth Council has welcomed new “buffer zones”, set up to protect patients and staff from harassment while accessing abortion services across the country. The council has worked with organisations including the Police and the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) to ensure women can exercise their legal right to access abortion services in the borough without encountering anti-abortion protestors.
Lambeth Council’s Cabinet has agreed a proposal to amalgamate four primary schools to tackle the huge challenge caused by a big fall in the number of pupils enrolling each year. They also agreed to close two other schools to address the issue, unless a viable merger proposal could be brought forward by the schools. The decision was made at a public meeting on November 4 following an extended period of public consultation with the community.
