The Tulse Hill After-School kids club

The club started in November and runs during term until November 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  It provides engaging and educational activities to children, including pottery, arts and crafts, music and dance, movies/cartoons, computer games, table tennis, snooker, gardening, and multi-sports. Homework support is also available.

Fulham Football Club

Fulham FC is hosting its annual Foundation Community Day on Saturday, 25 May, and is delighted to invite you to attend the exclusive Supporters Thank You in ‘The Cottage’ at Craven Cottage, Fulham, from 12:30 pm. Refreshments will be provided, and the event will conclude by 2:30 pm.

The Community Day provides our local community with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play on the pitch at Fulham FC's home while showcasing the wide range of Fulham FC Foundation’s various community-based programmes.

Rathbone Youth Centre Coding Club

Coding classes start on Tuesdays from May 28 to 13 August, for 12 weeks, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at 14-16 Knights Hill, West Norwood, SE27 0HY.

This course is aimed at students with some prior knowledge of coding, offering an opportunity to further develop their programming skills.

Students can work with various programming tools, including Python, Scratch, and more.  Students aged 14+ are welcome to join us for this exciting opportunity. Register now!

Street Games UK

Street Games is delighted to be one of Team GB's charity partners. This year, they worked closely with the British Olympic Foundation and its Get Set Path to Paris Programme to provide a brand new Olympic and Paralympic-themed multi-skills activator workshop.

The workshop will offer a chance to experience games linked to both the Olympics and Paralympics. It will provide volunteers, young people, youth and community workers, and community sports coaches and leaders with a multi-skill approach to coaching young people in their local community.

Between now and the start of the Paris Olympics, there are FREE places on four courses across London and Southeast. Places are limited, so we encourage you to book your place as soon as possible.

International Day of Play

International day of play takes places on 11 June 2024.  To celebrate this, we would like to offer you a Getting Involved Grant (GIG) of £200. You can use this funding to hold an afternoon of free play in your play areas.

You can purchase simple children's games such as a big connect 4, hula hoops, footballs, and refreshments to host the day of play. It’s a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together and have fun!

Woodvale Estate community garden

The Woodvale Estate TRA has secured funding from the ‘Changing Lives’ fund. The money was used to transform the community garden in their estate. The works began over the winter period and involved securing the interior of the sheds by lining them with plywood and installing shelves and hooks for tools to be accessible for residents in the future.

A key component was installing paving slabs so all residents with varying mobility and balance could walk on the bark chips. Amongst the final things was the installation of a refurbished bench and constructing a new bench with the remaining materials. The TRA members are tidying up the area in time for the Grand Opening on Saturday, 15 June, at 2:00 pm.

Carnac St community garden

Spring has sprung, and the Carnac St community garden has started blooming. The project is a partnership between the council and residents of the Vincennes Estate in Norwood. During the winter, 2,000 litres of bark chippings and 500 litres of compost were delivered to the site. A keen group of residents then took the lead with the planting and maintenance of the site. The result is an amazing array of irises and tulips for the whole community to enjoy.

Resident and volunteer Willem Heskes said, ‘I am very grateful for the donations that made this project possible. Carnac St looks so much nicer since the community garden was revamped.’   

The garden now has its very own Facebook page where everyone can learn more about the community garden's progress.

Community news

Mary Hannigan 1938 - 2024

The Woodvale Estate and broader community are mourning the passing of Mary Hannigan. Mary was the Chair of the Woodvale Estate TRA from May 2009 until August 2020. Mary also wore many hats, being an active Knights Hill Safer neighbourhood Team member and part-time volunteer at the Rathbone Youth Club. Mary was particularly known for her legendary annual summer fun day, attended by several other estates across the Borough. Mary is pictured in 2017 (second from left) with council staff and Councillor Saleha Jaffer, who opened the event as Mayoress. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.

Lanercost Close Estate

As part of Lambeth Housing drive to generate more revenue, Lambeth garage and South area housing teams worked together to regenerate and bring back into use garage spaces that have been empty for several years on Lanercost Close estate. This project will come on stream as the area becomes a Controlled Parking Zone. Hopefully, this will give residents a further option to park their vehicles in a secure space and off the street, thereby freeing up more parking spaces. Lambeth Housing would like to thank the residents of Lanercost and its members for their support and forbearance.”

Grants and

funding 

Getting Involved Grants

We have updated and reissued our Getting Involved Grants guidance and invite you to apply online for funding activities on your estate or in your community. 

Some of the key changes in the new guidance are:

• Grants of £751 to £3,500 will be decided by our GIG Panel made up of residents and officers
• Grants of £3,501 and above will be decided by Neighbourhood Working Engagement Coordinators
• Grants of £5,000 and above will prompt a procurement process
• We will not fund activities outside of the borough

We encourage applications for amounts up to £3,500. Larger grants may take longer to consider and decide. We will consider grants for partial or match funding.

National Lottery Funding

There are many funding programmes available from the National Lottery Community Fund with applications accepted on an ongoing basis throughout the year. Large and small grants are available to community groups along with guidance on applying for and managing a grant.  

Learning and development

Committee training opportunities

Our training programme for 2024 starts in June for committees and other engagement groups. Training includes chairing meetings, taking minutes, financial record keeping, applying for funding and other key topics.  Please let us know if there are any other areas that you would like further training in which would benefit your group and help it run more efficiently.

June 2024 sessions are:

• 04 June - Roles and Responsibilities - 6:00 pm to 7:30pm
• 25 June - Managing your finances - 6:00 pm to 7:30pm

Lambeth Youth Summit ’24 

The Lambeth Youth Summit  is an annual event held by the Lambeth Youth Council (LYC). It brings together young people, local organisations, the local authority, and businesses/communities under one roof to focus on what issues are affecting the youth and showcase all the various opportunities across Lambeth. The Youth Summit is aimed at young people aged 11-19(25 with SEND).
