Join the Volunteer Team in Tulse Hill at Doorstep Library
Are you passionate about supporting families to instill a love for reading and books? Doorstep Library is looking for Reading Volunteers to bring the joy of reading to children’s homes.
They are looking for volunteers to join their volunteer team in Tulse Hill which is on Tuesdays, 4.30pm till 7.00pm. You can either volunteer on a regular weekly basis or once every 3 to 4 weeks. There are plenty of school holiday breaks throughout the year as well as volunteers being entitled to 2 absences per term.
Watch their video to see what it will be like to volunteer with them, then visit their website to register and to find out about roles and locations in Lambeth.
This is what one of their volunteers said about her experience at Tulse Hill
“I have been with Doorstep for over a year and I can honestly say it is the highlight of my week. The relationships that I have build with the family’s in this time is just amazing, I have enjoyed getting to know each and every one of them and getting to see their growth and love of reading grow in this time is truly something special.
I would say to anyone who has a love of reading and would like to inspire the next generation, to sign up, it is such a wonderful opportunity to be a part of an amazing charity, the joy it brings me is overwhelming and the whole experience is such a positive and inspiring journey. Any new volunteers will be welcome with open arms at our project”.
Doorstep Library would love to hear from you!

Rathbone Society Inspiring Learning Mentors
A significant number of children and young people in Lambeth are from refugee and asylum-seeking families. The pandemic has put additional pressure on the lives and education of these disadvantaged young people and further exacerbated this attainment gap and inequality. Digital poverty has been a big barrier to young people’s access to and full participation in education.
Rathbone Society's Inspiring Learning Project has been running for the last three years and has supported 90 young people.
Rathbone are looking for volunteers who can commit an hour a week for at least six months to help a student – between Y7 and Y11– with their homework and/or revision in one subject, for example English (many students come from households where English is not the first language), Maths, History or Science. Study support sessions are online, starting 4pm. onwards.
If you could spare one hour a week to help a child keep up with their learning, Rathbone Youth Centre would like to hear from you
