Be a Befriender with Share Community
Share works with disabled people who need extra help and support to realise their dreams and aspirations. They are a centre for learning and wellbeing for adults with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, mental health and other support needs. Their aim is to help people live happier, healthier, and more independent lives, and make their own choices.
Befriending is an incredibly rewarding role that involves visiting and offering supportive, reliable relationships to people who may otherwise be socially isolated. Share’s befriending project aims to significantly reduce loneliness by providing enjoyable social connections and experiences for adults with learning disabilities, autism and other support needs.
You’ll give people regular valuable contact with someone outside their immediate support bubble, helping them feel less alone. You’ll support them to maintain positive mental health and encourage communication on meaningful topics or shared interests, helping promote positive outlooks and raised confidence.
Befrienders will meet people outside their homes, and go out locally together to do activities chosen by members. This could be going for a walk, cycling round the park, or helping with grocery shopping. As a volunteer Befriender you'll offer support and friendship to adults with learning disabilities and/or autism. Members of the scheme may also have a physical or sensory disability, and mental health needs. If you are interested, please email Sharing Community
We Swim Club
WeSwim Club's mission is to increase the opportunities for people with disabilities to swim in London. To do this they support existing swimming clubs, launch new clubs in areas of need and provide a resource to find information on the services available. WeSwim are looking for motivated and caring volunteers who are keen to make a difference by working with the disability community in Lambeth.
You do not have to be a strong swimmer, although being comfortable in the water is important and WeSwim will provide a comprehensive induction and ongoing training in working with swimmers with disabilities.
Sound like a good fit? - WeSwim would love to hear from you.
