Hello,
This week our council, residents and communities across the borough are deeply shocked at the revelations from The Angiolini Inquiry, which looked into how a Metropolitan police officer was able to commit the horrific kidnapping and murder of Sarah Everard.
I attended a briefing with Leaders across London and was appalled with the findings that this man should not have been employed as a police officer, the power and position of which he used to aid his attack in March 2021. Many red flags were missed, and this only adds to the pain for Sarah’s family.
We will always remember and honour Sarah Everard, and we continue to call on the Met Police and Government to finally bring an end to the culture that threatens the safety of women and others across our city.

At a Lambeth Youth Forum session held in Brixton at St Gabriel’s college earlier this month, thirty students joined a creative workshop as part of ongoing efforts to boost young people’s self-esteem, mental health, and safety. The forums are held quarterly for young people in Lambeth to share their experience of violence in the borough in a way that lets them express themselves. This initiative is part of the Lambeth Made Safer 10-year plan of coordinated work to prevent violence in the borough.

Apply now for a Lambeth play Street and help to bring your local community together this summer between 1 July and 30 September. A Play Street is where neighbours agree to close their road temporarily but regularly to through traffic so that children can play while adults get to know each other better. Setting up a Play Street won't cost you a thing. You can close your street for up to three hours a day for play, no more than once a week in any single street.

Following this the council will adopt some of the measures around flood prevention and introducing more drainage as part of the Soak Up Lambeth programme.

Lambeth is considering tighter controls over large house shares in parts of the borough after residents raised concerns over their impact on the Streatham Common & Vale and Streatham St Leonard’s area. The council is proposing to implement a new planning mechanism, which would make planning permission necessary for the change of use of existing standard residential properties to new Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs).
