WeSwim Club
WeSwim Club's mission is to increase the opportunities for people with disabilities to swim in London. To do this they support existing swimming clubs, launch new clubs in areas of need and provide a resource to find information on the services available. WeSwim are looking for motivated and caring volunteers who are keen to make a difference by working with the disability community in Lambeth.
You do not have to be a strong swimmer, although being comfortable in the water is important and WeSwim will provide a comprehensive induction and ongoing training in working with swimmers with disabilities.
Sound like a good fit? - WeSwim would love to hear from you.

Volunteer Hero Stories: Husnara from DASL
Husnara Zaman believes that her experience as a volunteer helped her gain essential experience for a full-time job.
“Volunteering with dasl helped me to grow and develop into the person I am today.
“I was in my second year of Uni, studying BSc Sport and Physical Education. I developed an interest in Disability Sports through my degree. I volunteered with dasl (Disability Advice Service Lambeth) as part of their Intosport Get Out Get Active programme, supporting Disabled inactive people to become active.
“It was 1:1 mentor work supporting a Disabled person with attending activities such as seated yoga and swimming. We set SMART goals together.
“The Get Out Get Active programme was exciting because of the opportunity to work 1:1 as a mentor, giving me and my mentee the freedom to plan a person-centred plan to get active. We had the flexibility of choosing times to work with them. I had experience as a Learning Support Assistant and was able to transfer my skills.
“Alongside this, I asked dasl if I could complete my placement with the Intosport project. I wanted more experience supporting Disabled people in becoming more active, and to develop new skills by working with them.
“Volunteering with dasl opened many doors including employment! My volunteering, and completing my work placement, led to being offered a freelance role – developing a sensory dance session for adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
“In May 2019, I progressed into the role of Intosport Worker. I worked in this role for four months before being appointed Intosport Coordinator. In September 2020, I became the Community Development Assistant Team Leader and then Team Leader in January 2022.
“My advice to anyone thinking of volunteering is to check organisations out before applying to volunteer. And don’t be afraid to go out of your comfort zone - it can lead to many more opportunities.
dasl are always keen to hear from Disabled people who would like to volunteer and get involved in their work. Please do reach out to them if you would like to find out about volunteering opportunities.
