Lambeth Council’s Cabinet has approved Child Friendly Lambeth’s action plan. This document will guide the next stage of the council’s journey towards becoming recognised as a UNICEF UK Child Friendly Community, as it strives to put children’s rights at the heart of its work. To coincide with the approval staff are being invited to take part in free Children’s Rights in Practice training delivered by UNICEF UK. Spaces are limited and the course will be online in two sessions (part1, 18 October and part 2, 25 October). If you are interested and want to find out more please email KCruzMosquera@lambeth.gov.uk

One Lambeth update – recruiting for Tier 2
The council is now recruiting for two new director roles following the announcement of the Tier 2 restructure; Director of Resident and Commercial Services and Director of Highways, Environment and FM. Black History Month
All throughout October Lambeth will be hosting events to celebrate Black History Month. As well as the jam-packed programme from Lambeth Libraries there will be a programme curated by staff for staff, with our main event being held on 18 October. To kick off BHM join the the Black and Multi-Ethnic Staff Forum as they host our first event on Wednesday 4 October. See all details on Lamnet.
Customer Services Week – shadowing and feedback opportunities
National Customer Service Week takes place 2 to 6 October. Lambeth's customer services team are busy curating a programme of events for staff to showcase what the team to do and how everyone can learn customer services skills. For now they are offering staff the opportunity to shadow the team at the Civic Centre, as well as an opportunity to get feedback on their own customer service skills. Strike update
The ASLEF Union will be striking on the following days 30 September and 4 October, in addition, they have also announced an overtime ban across the UK rail network on Friday 29 September and from Monday 2 to Friday 6 October. So services may still be effected on these dates. Please check the National Rail website for any updates if you are travelling by train. Tube strikes have also been called for Wednesday 4 and Friday 6 October in a dispute over job losses and safety concerns. Please check the TFL website for any updates.
Lambeth hosts free Ageing Well Festival
Lambeth will host a free Ageing Well festival for the over-50s at the Kia Oval on 30 September. The festival will commemorate International Day of Older Persons 2023 (1 October) and celebrate the valuable contribution older people have made – and are still making - to the borough. It will be a fun and social day with workshops, food, information and advice stalls and more, tailored to residents aged 50 and older.
Need help to quit smoking?
Since 2012, Stoptober has successfully helped 2.5 million smokers quit. The theme this year is ‘When you stop smoking, good things start to happen’. Within days or weeks without smoking your senses of taste and smell improve, you start breathing more easily and have more energy. In time, your longer-term risks of cancer, lung disease, heart disease and stroke reduce significantly. There is free support available for all Lambeth smokers seeking to quit this Stoptober.
Women’s Health Month – All throughout October
Women’s Health Month kicks off our Winter of focusing on health and wellbeing. The first event sees The Women’s Staff Forum welcome Jennifer Reiter, Lead Commissioner for Public Health to lead the discussion around women's health issues such as, smears, sexual health and contraception, donating blood etc. The session is open to all who identify as women and non-binary people. Cyber Security Month in October – stay safe online
This October celebrates 20 years of Cyber Security Awareness Month. It's a time to think about all we've learned about staying safe online. This year's message is clear and simple: "It’s Easy to Stay Safe Online." So let’s learn how to make our online world a safer place. Find out about drop in sessions, take a quiz, learn quick tips and more on the Cyber team Sharepoint page.
Team Insights
For the next Team Insights session we are joined by the Climate Change team who will be talking about all the work Lambeth is doing around sustainability, improving air pollution and much more, plus will Lambeth meet its commitment of becoming a net zero borough by 2023? Bereavement support training
Cruse Bereavement Support, the leading national charity providing bereavement support services in England are offering Lambeth staff free bereavement training. Learn to talk to people who are bereaved in a simple, empathic way, and find the right words, and provide simple signposting where needed. When: 10 October, 10,15am. See more info and how to sign up.

London International Pan-African Film Festival 2023
London International Pan-African Film Festival 2023 (London PAFF) taking place in Lambeth next month. London PAFF is an annual film event that celebrates Pan-African cinema and screens films produced in Africa and the Diaspora (Europe, Caribbean countries, USA, Latina America), and from all over the world. It is founded by Ne Kunda Nlaba, Film Producer, Director, Screenwriter, and Political Scientist. The festival will take place at the West Norwood Picturehouse London from the 3 to the 8 October.
