Do you have parenting or childcare experience?
Home-Start Lambeth is looking for people with your experience to support families in Lambeth with pre-school aged children. Volunteers will help families facing a range of challenges (e.g. isolation, depression, poverty, a bereavement, poor housing, a physical or mental disability, etc), so that their children can have the best start in life.
As a Home-Start Lambeth volunteer you will:
- Offer tailored practical & emotional support to families through weekly visits to their homes or meet-ups at public spaces.
- Build a supportive relationship with families in which the challenges of family life can be discussed & positive strategies encouraged.
- Help build families' strengths & boost their self-confidence, so that they can best support their children.
- Encourage families to widen their network of relationships & use the services available in Lambeth.
The commitment for this role is 2 hours a week during our working hours (Mon - Fri, 9.30am - 4pm).
Home Start Lambeth ask new volunteers to attend a volunteer training course before supporting families. Their next training will take place at Fenstanton Primary School between 10am - 2pm on 21st Sep, 28th Sep, 5th Oct, 12th Oct, 19th Oct, and 2nd Nov 2023 (six Thursdays).
Your experiences & skills could help another family more than you think! Apply here to secure your spot on the training!

Refugees at Home Christmas Card Project
It may only be mid-September, and Christmas isn't the *first* thing on eveyone's mind... but Refugees at Home are planning ahead...
Refugees at Home connect people with a spare room to refugees and asylum seekers in need of somewhere to stay. They don’t think people who come to the UK for sanctuary should end up on the streets. Their vision is for every refugee and every person seeking asylum to have a safe place to stay.
Each year, Refugees at Home sell their popular holiday cards through an online shop, raising funds for their work at Refugees at Home. They're looking for a regular volunteer who can commit to coming to their office 1-2 days per week in the lead up to Christmas, to pack, send and process orders of cards to those ordering them. You'll be working alongside their staff team in their office, to help dispatch these. The local post office is a short distance away (within 5 minutes' walk) and the kettle is always on in the office!
Activities
- Liaising with printers for delivery of cards
- Processing orders made in online shop
- Packing cards
- Distributing orders
About you
You'll be willing to get stuck in to help, have a good level of written English (you'll be addressing envelopes and reading orders). You'll need to be happy making trips to the (fully accessible) post office a short distance away. They work from the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 9am and 6pm.
If you’d like to know more about hosting, please visit: Refugees at Home hosting or email the team.
