Could You Help at Black Culture Market's Brixton x Harlem Event - this weekend?
Black Culture Market was established to celebrate black culture and commerce in the local community. Their events give entrepreneurs of all ages of African and Caribbean descent visibility for them to flourish and make cultural products more accessible. With just 0.24% of capital in the UK going to black entrepreneurs (0.02% to black female entrepreneurs) access to early-stage capital is limited. BCM aims to bridge the gap by encouraging communities to shop small with black-owned businesses.
This weekend, Saturday 19th August and Sunday 20th August, Black Culture Market will take place in The Department Store, Brixton from 11am to 5pm, this will be the Brixton x Harlem edition. Plans are in place to make it an even greater success than last year, so there is a lot to do! Black Culture Market needs people who can help set up (Friday 18th August), meet and greet guests at reception and/or help pack it away (Sunday 20th August).
Support needed is as follows:
Friday 18th August - Set up is 9.30 am to 1pm
Saturday 19th August - 9.30am - 5.30pm - Event Support
Sunday 20th August - 10.30am - 7pm - Event Support and pack down
If you have the stamina to do all 3 phases that would be amazing but being part of any phase would be great - (for at least 4 hours ideally at the beginning or end of the shift).

Home Start Lambeth is looking for Family Volunteers
Home-Start Lambeth volunteers offer support, friendship & practical help to families in Lambeth, so that no child's future is limited. It does this through volunteers who support families going through difficult situations, such as multiple births, post-natal depression, an illness, a bereavement, isolation, etc.
Home-Start Lambeth is looking for volunteers who can support families in the following ways:
-
Through home visits: Home-Visiting volunteers are matched with a local family, who they visit once a week during working hours to offer tailored support and befriending. Volunteers build a supportive relationship with the family in which the challenges of family life can be discussed & positive strategies encouraged.
-
Through sing-and-play groups: Group volunteers help plan and deliver weekly groups for families/carers with babies or children under five. Groups promote learning through play and community integration.
Volunteers must have parenting or childcare experience and be able to commit to approximately two hours of volunteering a week for at least six months.
Volunteers receive training and regular supervisions to support them in their roles.
If you have skills and experience to share, Home-Start Lambeth would love to hear from you!
