Southbank Centre’s Planet Summer

Southbank

Find care, hope, connection and activism at Southbank Centre with talks, performances, music and family events responding to the climate emergency.

This season of climate care, hope and activism takes its inspiration from our pioneering Hayward Gallery exhibition, Dear Earth, a group show itself inspired by artist Otobong Nkanga’s suggestion that ‘caring is a form of resistance’. Planet Summer inspires a call for action that all of us, making change together, can address the challenges of the climate crisis.

Check out the wide range of talks, performances and events being hosted until 3 September on the Southbank Centre Planet Summer site here

Plastic Mountain: A Journey from waste to wonder

plastic mountain

What if you could turn plastic waste into a wonder? What if you could create a mountain out of litter and watch it transform into a masterpiece?

That’s what Plastic Mountain is all about. Plastic Mountain is a not-for-profit organisation that uses art to raise awareness of the plastic issue and to inspire people to take action.

The latest sculpture, featured on the large traffic island opposite St Luke's Church where Knights Hill and Norwood High Street meet, is a co-creation with the community. Its unveiling will take place on 6 August, 2023 and will mark the completion of the sculpture and the final phase of Plastic Mountain’s campaign.

Share your climate projects

climate projects

Last year Lambeth released its Climate Action Plan, a framework for action to reach our borough-wide target to become net zero compatible and climate resilient by 2030.

Lambeth’s Climate Partners are developing a Climate Action Plan website to collectively track progress against the Climate Action Plan, sign-post resources, share best practice and connect projects across the borough.

As part of this process, we are reaching out to all residents, organisations and community groups working in the borough to capture either past or on-going projects that support our collective Climate Action Goals.

If you know of a project or would like to be featured on the site, please enter your details here by 8 August, 2023.

Dr Bike sessions taking place this month

dr bike

Dr Bike sessions are free to attend, and experienced mechanics will check everything on your bike from wheels, brakes, gears and tyre pressure to lights, racks, pedals, saddles and more. Any minor adjustments that can be made will be done there and then free of change.

In the case that something can’t be fixed on site the mechanics will let you know exactly what needs doing and a rough guide to what it should cost and will point you in the direction of your local bike shop.
