Hello,

Lambeth is the first home of the Windrush Generation in the UK, and so we’re taking a special role in celebrating Windrush 75 and recognising this long and celebrated legacy.

Lambeth’s Mayor was the first to officially welcome the new arrivals in the 1940s, and since then the Windrush Generation have created a huge legacy in Lambeth that’s helped shape the present day.

The Windrush Generation has also contributed greatly to wider British society, despite the discrimination they have faced, which is why the celebration of this anniversary is so important.

The legacy of the Windrush Generation, who were invited to the country to help rebuild post-war Britain, is marked by their contribution to public service, culture and our wider economy.
