Home Start Lambeth is looking for Family Volunteers
Home-Start Lambeth volunteers provide support, friendship and practical help to families with at least one child under five who are experiencing difficulties. They’re reaching out for volunteers who can give about an hour per week for 6 months minimum (times can be flexible to suit both you and the family you are supporting). Volunteers will:
- Offer support tailored to the needs of the families over the phone, via Zoom or via meet-ups.
- Build a supportive relationship with the family in which the challenges of family life can be discussed, positive strategies encouraged, and also encourage parents’ strengths and emotional well-being so they can best support their children.
- Encourage families to widen their network of relationships and to use the support and services available in the community effectively.
You’ll need to be able to be reliable, a good listener, and maintain confidentiality while recognising that there may be situations when disclosure is essential to the welfare of a child. Training will be provided online.
Your own experiences and skills can help another family more than you could imagine. Home Start Lambeth would love to hear from you.

Coronation Champions & Young Coronation Champions
To mark the Coronation, the Coronation Champions Awards, with the support of Her Majesty The Queen Consort, will celebrate and recognise inspiring volunteers who have made an exceptional difference in their communities. The Royal Voluntary Service is organising the awards to acknowledge the contributions of volunteers across the UK.
They will commend outstanding volunteers from all communities and also aim to inspire others to explore what volunteering has to offer. There will be eight categories of awards, from volunteering in health or animal welfare, to supporting the environment or sports and heritage. Anyone can nominate a volunteer they know for an award. Judges will also be on the lookout to celebrate rising stars as ‘Young Coronation Champions’ (aged 14-18). The awards are open for nominations and will close on 2nd April. 500 Coronation Champions will be announced before the Coronation weekend.
 King's Award for Voluntary Service
Celebrating the outstanding work of local volunteer groups across the UK, the King’s Award for Voluntary Service is looking for: • Groups that are truly outstanding and making a big difference to their local community. • Groups where volunteers, rather than paid staff, are in the driving seat. • Groups that have highest standards in everything they do.
Along with being a huge honour and recognition of the work of Lambeth’s volunteer organisation, winning the King's Award is a quality mark for the organisation. This could help charity organisations in their applications for funding, giving funding bodies the assurance that they are supporting initiatives run by a well-run charity. Nominations open on 1 April. Help elevate and give voluntary organisations in Lambeth the recognition they deserve.
