Steve Wilde is a local, self-taught artist. He previously photographed walls that accidentally looked like abstract paintings but the rundown areas where these could be found have now been gentrified and replaced with bland glass buildings so the only thing to do was to paint his own!
'Dante's Car Park' was borne out of reading Gareth E Rees' (some might say niche) book Car Park Life [2019 Influx Press] which led to the idea of relocating Dante's 9 circles of hell to a multi-storey car park. So if we picture Dante and Virgil circling around, looking for somewhere to park, in a battered Fiat 500 who do we think they might encounter these days?
Accompanying the nine paintings that these thoughts inspired are other works.
