Tonight our 63 newly elected councillors will be voting on a report that recommends Cllr Claire Holland as Leader of the Council, as well as nine new Cabinet portfolios and opposition appointments. The report sets out how Cabinet is made up of eleven elected Labour councillors who collectively make decisions, provide political leadership and implement policy through senior officers. Staff awards – join our watch party!

Save the date – 23 June, 2pm is when this year’s staff awards will be taking place and you are all invited!! Like last year the show will be streamed live online for staff to watch, with shortlisted nominees invited to an in-person ceremony at the Assembly Hall. This year we want to celebrate us all being able to get together again and will be holding in person watch parties in the Town Hall and the Civic Centre. We’ll be announcing more details shortly, but for now make sure your diary is cleared and your party poppers are ready!

June 2022 payroll deadline date

The payroll deadline date for June payroll data submissions will be Friday 27 May 2022. This is slightly earlier than normal due to the extended bank holiday for the Queens Jubilee. The earlier deadline date will not affect any overtime worked during May which will be paid as normal in the June payroll run.

In preparation for the change-over from Internet Explorer to Edge, please set aside some time to move across bookmarks, shortcuts, and favourites to your improved browser. Once the switch has taken place, you’ll no longer be able to access Internet Explorer 11.  We have provided a quick and easy guide where you can also find more information on the project. Volunteer’s Week 2022 event

Volunteer’s Week is an opportunity to say thank you to the volunteers who have played such a key role during the pandemic response.  Team Lambeth and its volunteers played a huge part and we would like to take this opportunity to tell some Team Lambeth volunteer stories, celebrate their incredible achievements and the legacy these efforts have left in creating a newly engaged and reinvigorated sector and Team Lambeth’s plans for the future.  Join us for a celebration of all things Team Lambeth. Appraisals are an opportunity to reflect on what you have individually achieved for Lambeth, what you learnt and to plan your development for the year ahead. Trans awareness training

If you want to understand how to be trans inclusive, this workshop is for you. Trans, non-binary, genderfluid – have you heard these words before but felt too nervous about asking ‘what does that mean?’ You’ll gain an insight into legislation relating to gender, name changes and some of the challenges experienced by trans and nonbinary people. From language to the law, we'll be covering it all. When: 6 June, 2pm. Sign up.

File amnesty - find it, scan it, bin it

The Digital Records Programme Team are soon to launch a 2-month File Amnesty across the Council. They are on the lookout for any historical physical files that might be lurking somewhere out there (in a cupboard, in your locker, at home or piled up under your desk etc) so that they can retrieve them and make digital copies. Showcase your services at the staff conference

Does your team offer a service which other departments would find useful? This could be anything from a local provider directory, creating surveys, access to residents, business planning etc. We are looking for teams to showcase their services at this year’s staff conference. Please email Reetu Rupal on rrupal@lambeth.gov.uk for more information on how to take part. Deadline for submission is 24 June.

Walking for charity

Long serving Lambeth colleague Jackie Barker (pictured on the right) and her friend are walking from Lands End to John O’Groats to help raise money for Surrey Search and Rescue, where Jackie is a volunteer. Jackie who has been with Lambeth for over 20 years, has taken a three month sabbatical from her Hospital Discharge Support worker role in the team at St Thomas’ Hospital, and hopes to complete the walk by mid August. Anyone wishing to donate can do so via Jackie’s Just giving page.

Black, Asian and Multi Ethnic Staff Forum host the infamous music hour with a selection of tunes chosen by DJ Marvellous to put a smile on your face during the lunch hour. Join the session.

Weekly stretch and flex session – Tuesdays

Start your day right with Trevor East’s weekly stretch and flex class every Tuesday at 8.30am. This 15min morning warm up session is designed to get you moving and stretching those parts which can often get forgotten about sitting at our desks all day. Tuesday 31 May session will be pre recorded, access the recording.

Brixton weightlifting club

Brixton Weightlifting Club is a free volunteer-led community service, working in conjunction with Lambeth and GLL to develop the sport of Olympic Weightlifting with young people aged 14-18 years.  Their aim is to train participants to take part in the London Youth games, and also offer coaching to women identifying participants of all ages.  Sessions are Tuesdays from 5.30-7pm at Brixton Rec – Level Four – Energy Zone.  No experience necessary to join.

Looking for a new challenge? Interested in multi-sport but not had the chance to try it? Think you’re ‘not fit enough’ for multi-sport? Give Tri-fit a go! It’s a combination of running, strength work and swimming, and is aimed at people from a Black, Asian and Multi-Ethnic background. See flyer for details.

Staff Christian prayer group – Tuesdays, 1pm

If you’re looking to seek the Lord in new ways, why not join other Lambeth Christian colleagues for prayer and worship? The group meet online every Tuesday lunchtime sharing testimonies of faith, listening and engaging in Bible studies. So this is arguably one of the most exciting days in our Lambeth calendar.  This evening we have our annual full council our first council meeting since the election.  In that meeting, elected members will endorse Cllr Holland's proposed Cabinet and herself as leader,  and Bayo Dosunmu will be confirmed as our new Chief Executive. Read the full update.
