Hello,
All of us have I'm sure been horrified at the scenes in Ukraine which are causing a full scale humanitarian emergency. Together with Cllr Sonia Winifred, I wrote to the Home Secretary yesterday, urging her to open up safe refugee routes for those fleeing the war in Ukraine. Lambeth has a proud history of welcoming refugees, as a council we have recently helped to house those fleeing Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Sudan, and other areas afflicted by war and persecution. We stand ready to help, but need the government to act much more quickly. As at least two million people have been forced to flee their homes, the best way to help the people of Ukraine right now is via financial donations. Please do consider donating to the Disasters Emergency Committee if you can.
Councillor Claire Holland, Lambeth Council Leader

97% of women say they've experienced sexual harassment, but only 25% of the men we surveyed said they'd witnessed it on the street. Our new campaign launched this week, aimed at men, encourages them to look out for Lambeth by challenging others if they witness incidents like cat-calling, pestering, unwanted touching, following and other unacceptable behaviour. We’d also like to hear from women and girls who use our public spaces in Lambeth. Please tell us where and why you are feeling safe or unsafe and what we could do to make Lambeth a safer place for everyone.

Following growing concerns for the environment we've ended the use of glyphosate, a chemical previously used to kill weeds on streets and estates in Lambeth. This move supports our pollinator action plan to protect insects, including bee's, butterfliers and beetles, which all play a crucial environmental role as pollinators. Watch our short video which explains more.

Our very own ground breaking in house housing repairs team, community works, has completed over 100 repairs and projects every week, since starting up last July. The team has gone from strength to strength, providing over 20,000 responsive repairs in the last seven months, with residents providing positive feedback according to a recent report.

Our financial budget for 2022/2023 aims to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, protect frontline services, and invest in Lambeth’s communities. It includes a £3m increase in Council Tax Support, to help the poorest residents, permanently reducing the bills of almost 7,000 vulnerable households eligible for CTS, with most seeing their bills reduced to nil.

Five community groups in Lambeth were funded to carry out grassroots community sessions to help address data showing that Black, Asian, and Multi-Ethnic communities in Lambeth have a lower rate of vaccination. The Community groups explored current perceptions, understandings and beliefs around health, wellbeing and Covid-19 through public consultations and workshops with residents and health care workers.

We’re carrying out a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) which looks at the health and pharmacy needs of people living in Lambeth. We want to hear the views of local people on pharmacy services in the borough to help us better understand the needs of our communities. Please take our short survey below now to share your views on the PNA.
