Authors Avril Nanton and Jody Burton take you on a journey through the Black history of London, one area at a time! You'll also find annotated walking maps, each with helpful numbered markers so you can build your own perfect walk-through history.

Joan Anim-Addo, Deirdre Osborne and Kadija Sesay discuss decolonising your bookshelf! Join literary critic Sarah Ozo-Irabor with the authors to discuss why they chose the books they did – and maybe you have some suggestions of books they’ve left out of 'the Canon'!

In response to the international outcry at George Floyd's death, Lenny Henry and Marcus Ryder have commissioned this collection of essays to discuss how and why we need to fight for Black lives to matter - not just for Black people but for society as a whole. Join Marcus to discuss the last tumultuous year and what more is to be done if Black British Lives are to truly matter.

‘The Notebook Series’ is an exhibition by Lambeth based visual artist and academic Kimathi Donkor. The series shows portraits of young Black women on a white background. It is a snapshot of resourceful, independent Black women going about their everyday business. This innovative and empowering show will appeal to all ages.

Many of our libraries have displays of books on climate change at the moment to coincide with COP26. Find all the classic as well as latest books on climate change, climate justice and green alternatives to fossil fuels.
Clapham and West Norwood Libraries also have the Climate Justice Exhibition from WILPF. Founded in 1915, the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) is one of the world’s longest-standing women’s peace organisations.
The panels cover the climate issues around militarism, nuclear, displaced people, ecocide, finance, resilient communities and taking actions.

Join Laura Miles to discuss transgender resistance and the current debates. She is the author of Transgender Resistance: Socialism and the fight for trans liberation and other articles. She is a former lecturer and LGBT rep on the national executive committee of the University and College Union, and is an active socialist and LGBT+ campaigner. She lives Wakefield with her partner and dogs.
This event is part of Transgender Awareness Week and is organised by the Friends of Carnegie Library. The event is in -person and Live streamed on Carnegie Library Facebook

Geoff Brandwood is an architectural historian and past chair of the Victorian Society. He is widely known for his work, much of it in association with the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), on the history of nineteenth and early twentieth-century pub architecture. Geoff will tell us the background to the late nineteenth century pub boom of which there many interesting examples in the Kennington area and elsewhere in north Lambeth.

Want to learn our favourite tips & tricks? We'll take a Deep Dive at 6.40pm (30 minutes). Want to learn Libby but can't attend live? Big Library Read is an international reading program that connects millions of readers around the world with an ebook through public libraries. Five Total Strangers by Natalie D. Richards will be available for simultaneous use in ebook and audiobook formats on Libby & the OverDrive app between November 1-15.
Ukulele loans from Tate South Lambeth Library from 20 November
Working with the London Ukulele Project you’ll soon be able to borrow a ukulele from Tate South Lambeth Library along with accessories and a pack of songs that can be learnt. Spread the Word has partnered with Wellcome Collection to launch an ambitious project aiming to find and support writers from underrepresented groups, who have a big idea for a non-fiction book for general readers, that engages with health and being human. Applications are open from 18 October until 22 November.
