Lambeth Digital Champion Project

Become a Digital Champion and help your local community get connected!

Over the years, healthcare services have undergone gradual digitalisation, aiming to offer patients a faster and more accessible route to services and information. The COVID pandemic has accelerated this process and, as an unintended result, many patients were digitally excluded from healthcare services for several reasons, such as not having a device, lacking digital skills or hesitance in getting online for the first time.

In Lambeth, to try to bridge the gap as mentioned above, Lambeth GP Federation is hoping to recruit and train local people to become digital champions to:

1. Provide basic 1-2-1 digital support and learning to patients identified by GP practices who would want some extra help to go online. Introduction to the project can also come from voluntary and community organisations and the individual who needs the support.
2. Agreed and tailored the support to the individual’s need, which can be anything from helping people to get on social media, to booking GP appointments and using the NHS App.
3. Help to build the patient’s confidence in using digital tools, especially health care tools such as online consultation.
4. Signpost patients to other forms of support, for example, digital devices or further training opportunities.

Read Easy Pioneers

Read Easy is a national charity which provides free, confidential, one-to-one reading coaching to the millions of adults in the UK who can’t read at all or who struggle to read.

They do this by supporting volunteers to establish Read Easy groups in their own communities, coordinated by volunteer management teams. Reading activity between Readers and Coaches usually takes place in safe community venues for half an hour, twice a week.

As statistics show this is an area of high need, they are keen to establish a group in Lambeth, so are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic individual to make this happen. You will network with other organisations to establish interest and support, and publicise the project to recruit other volunteers who will run the group.

If you are up for a challenge, have at least one day a week, Monday to Friday, and are interested in helping to offer life-changing opportunities to local people please get in touch. You can, if you wish, share the role with another volunteer.

Age UK Lambeth - Home Cooks

Home Cooks is a service designed by MyNeighbour to support members of our local community who may not have access to a hot meal, for all sorts of reasons.

They are looking for volunteers who love cooking and can deliver a meal to someone in their local community. This could be a one-off meal, a weekly meal, every couple of weeks, even twice a week – it’s completely up to you to decide who you would like to cook for, and when, based on your favourite foods, your availability and where you are located.
