Social Media Outreach Assistant
Community TechAid are looking for a social media outreach assistant to join their volunteer team.
Community TechAid (CTA) came together in March 2020 as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the lockdown came into effect across the UK, many individuals were left without access to the internet, amplifying existing inequalities across the country.
They recognise that many everyday tasks and services have become accessible exclusively through online platforms, leaving many members of our community behind. Starting out as a small group of volunteers, they have since grown to 40+ volunteers and has distributed upward of 800 devices. They work with local community organisations to ensure that these donations reach those who are in the most need.
They are looking for a volunteer with an interest in social media and content creation to help promote their work and encourage laptop donations, as well as building relationships with other community focused organisations who share their ethos.
You will be joining a small but passionate team, where you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact while growing your digital communications skills. The position will require weekly scheduling of content on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn and they hope to set up and develop their Instagram page so knowledge of this platform would be great! Experience of using Canva and other online scheduling platforms is a bonus.
You will also support the Outreach Team with content creation and actively promote their partners, by engaging in important online conversations around digital exclusion and the #righttorepair movement.

Technical Hub Assistant
CTA are also looking for a Technical Hub Assistant...
The Community TechAid Hub is the facility where they take in donations and work on devices. They are looking for someone to assist their tech team at their hub in Brixton for 3-4 hours a week (for a minimum of once a month). They are especially keen for volunteers who may have had lived experience of digital exclusion, and will provide training where required.
The role will involve:
- receiving devices from donors and securely wiping the data - assessing devices for their suitability by checking speed, memory and hardware - updating devices with necessary applications and installing operating systems - using CTA's internal database to log donations and keep track of devices in your workstream
This is a great opportunity for someone wishing to grow their technical knowledge whilst supporting members of our community reach their full potential by accessing the online world.
The role requires a good working knowledge of laptops and computers, or an interest in learning! CTA will provide training on how to safely and securely wipe devices, and reinstall software as well as how to conduct a PAT test.
