Last week Lambeth's Climate Assembly came to an end. Assembly members have experienced a total of:
-
6 weeks of learning, discovery and discussion forums
-
20 hours of virtual sessions hosted by independent facilitators Traverse
-
17 external testimonies from expert speakers, campaigners and most affected communities
Members have been learning about the climate crisis globally and in Lambeth, discovering solutions to it from inspiring local change makers and discussing guiding principles and trade-offs involved in solutions to the question:
‘We are facing a climate crisis. How can we work together in Lambeth to address climate change and its causes fairly, effectively and quickly?’
On Saturday, assembly members met for the final time for a 5 hour working session to flesh out their top recommendations in the areas of transport, homes, industry and other areas of sustainable livelihoods including waste and consumption. These recommendations will be finalised and published next week.
Councillor Claire Holland, Leader of the Council, addressed members:
"Thank you for your time, energy, commitment and dedication to the Citizens Assembly. The role you are playing will be crucial in our journey to net zero."

The assembly recommendations are part of a long term plan for Lambeth to reach net zero emissions
Assembly members are finalising their top recommendations. In your final update next week, we'll share these with you.
The recommendations will then presented to the Council and the Assembly’s ‘Steering Group’ this autumn. The Steering Group consists of stakeholders from the borough such as TfL, local NHS trusts and BIDs - they've all committed to act on the recommendations.
The recommendations will also form the Council's citizen-led climate action plan, to be published at the end of the year.
