Citizens assembly header

Hello,

Welcome to the first edition of our new climate action, clean transport and sustainability newsletter, which will now be delivered to your inbox once a month.

In this edition, we've got exciting news about Lambeth's Citizens' Assembly on Climate Change, plus tons of support to help you get cycling, including lessons, free repairs and cheap bikes.

Lambeth’s Citizens’ Assembly on Climate Change

From 25 May to 3 July, 50 of Lambeth’s residents will be deliberating, and developing solutions to, the question:

‘We are facing a climate crisis. How can we work together in Lambeth to address climate change and its causes fairly, effectively and quickly?’

The assembly was convened by the council to bring residents together to learn about climate change and deliberate on climate solutions and the trade-offs involved.

The assembly is independent from the Council and is being organised by expert facilitators, Traverse.

How you can get involved

You'll can read more about the assembly, watch the sessions and share your views via our Commonplace site

Nearly 100 new electric vehicle charge points to be installed across Lambeth

Cllrs with electric vehicle in Brixton

In Mid-April we started the process of installing another 65 Charge Points throughout Lambeth. In the next tranche a further 32 will be rolled out and we are also looking at firming up a policy regarding the issue of cables trailing across public paths.

We are also hoping to make all electric charing bays open to electric vehicles only from late Summer onwards, to increase utilisation rates and increase resident’s confidence that a move to an EV will be supported by an accessible Charge Point.

On each day of the challenge schools compete to see who can record the greatest number of pupils, staff and parents cycling, walking, scooting, or using a wheelchair to school.

17 Schools in Lambeth took part in the challenge this year joining over 2,250 other schools with a total of 758,166 pupils taking part. As of writing over 2.8 million active journeys have taken place.

We hope to reach more schools to encourage Active Travel to School in the coming year.
