Covid symptoms? Get a test

Dear Resident,

This weekend London was placed into Tier 4, a new level of restrictions that reflects the serious increase in the spread of Covid-19. Cases in Lambeth are rising dramatically, our latest data shows that they are up by over 150% in just the last six days. This is a very dangerous moment for everyone, with widespread community transmission of a new variant of the virus that spreads more quickly. The rise in the numbers of people getting the disease increases the risk to individuals of severe illness and is now placing increasing pressure on our local NHS.

I urge you to please stick to the new rules which are:

  • Residents must stay at home, apart from essential reasons
  • No mixing with any other households, including at Christmas.
  • Residents should not leave Tier 4 areas, or stay overnight away from home
  • Residents can only meet one person from another household in public outdoor spaces
  • Non-essential retail, gyms and leisure facilities, and personal care services are closed

The most important thing you can do is to stay at home, unless for essential reasons such as work if you cannot work from home, to get food or medicine, for childcare, to exercise, for medical care, or to get a Covd-19 test. Read a full list of the rules.

If you have to leave home, please follow the hands, face and space guidance (wash your hands, wear a mask and stay socially distanced).

If you have symptoms, please self isolate and book a test immediately. Testing sites are available across the borough and getting tested is vital to tracking cases and stopping the spread. Book a test online, or call 119.

I know that the last minute disruption to Christmas plans will have been painful to many of you, but the rules are necessary to protect each other.

I want to thank each and every one of you for all you are doing to stick to the rules and to helping ensure that  many more people don’t catch the virus and die. It has not been easy this week, as the government’s changes in rules have been careless and confusing. Yet the rules and the need for action could not be clearer now – stay at home to protect each other and save lives.

If we do that, then together we can get this virus under control and ensure the rollout of the vaccine will bring a brighter 2021 for us all

Merry Christmas to you and your family – and stay safe.

Best wishes,
